Playing at ASHL Richmond (OVAL) Div E, second season of my career. Still working on my skating / positioning, mostly.

I'm looking to take a power skating program, any opinions as to which place offers the best one?

I'm doing it at Britannia. Sunday from 5:45-6:30. Today is first class. It's a lot of edge work and the intermediate class is a lot of backwards skating doing crossovers and one foot turns. The beginners group is separated into two groups. One that doesn't know any edges, and one that knows some edges but works on honing forward crossovers.

I like it because the guys who teach it are pretty nice and push you pretty well. I've never taken it at 8 rinks, but from what my buddy tells me he says they spend half the time with pucks and the other half on skating, which is probably why it costs three tiems as much, but either one you take will help your skating a lot. I've done the one at Brit about 4 times last season and I'm a lot more confident with my backwards skating. The beginners one seems to be full, but the intermediate one has 10 spots left.

Here's the link for the programs at 8 rinks

Brittania if you don't know the basics. 8rinks if you know the basics and want to improve and push yourself. I've taken both and I've benefited most from 8rinks. Speaking of...I think I'll take one again this winter.

I agree with the shitty times though haha

I agree. During the summer we signed up for div c1/2 and got placed into e2. I felt bad for our opponents. I think our gaa was like less than 1.00.

Currently in tier 3-4 in ice604

Playing ICE604 tier 5, team called the Hawks (HWK). Also subbing/part timing for ASHL Div E1 (i think) for a team called the Cougar Hunters.

JKam 11-05-2012 03:17 PM

my team keeps winning and we've moved up to tier 5-6 (SGM/Scoregasms)

I need to join a shittier team :QQ:

Yeah for sure.

It's so weird not playing with a regular D partner. My team just rolls the D lol.

GPF is a gongshow. Nothing but EI's dishing out open ice hits and starting brawls in and after the games. Idiots there think its fun to try to make it NHL-like.

its probably not just that league, it seems like most leagues are full of these guys. Not just EI's is some of the chirpy asians guys too.

I forgot what team it was but there was this EI who had a dark blue tint visor :awwyeah:

what a joke. slammed his stick against the boards everytime he missed a shot.

JKam 11-20-2012 03:14 PM

lol white guys are just as chirpy. Quite a few throw their body around a lot too and this is REC league. I swear a few of these guys think this is an NHL try-out, out to hurt people.

spideyv2 11-20-2012 10:52 PM

Langley league is so rough

no...it IS just that league. I subbed for my boss' team when he played at GPF and got consistently blindside hit(Think Scott Stevens style) and that's when I didn't even have the puck! It literally is a whole bunch of EI's going crazy and starting brawls and they think its funny. Never encountered that at COAST, ASHL or even ICE604. I'll take those chirpy asians anyday.
