Pin Stripe Removal Is it possible to remove factory applied pin stripes without damaging the paint? The pin stripes on my truck have little sections missing already, so i know they come off...but with the sections missing, it looks old, and pin stripes are kind of ugly anyway. Tips and tricks? |
heat up the pinstripe pick it off with your nails clean up any left over residue with rubbing alcohol, goo gone or any other adhesive remover. If your truck is old then be careful when your peeling the pinstripe, it would suck to rip off clearcoat with it. Oh and before your start, look around your whole truck to make sure that indeed the pinstripe is peel-able on every panel. I've seen bodyshops just paint on the pinstripe rather than using a sticker when it came to repairing a car. |
Like SSM DC5 said heat it up using a heat gun or if you dont have one a hair dryer, hold it at least 30 cm away and move it back and forth on the pinstrip. Dont hover over one spot. And you should be able to pick it off with your fingernail. |
Yup, heat gun works wonders. I've used it to take door ding moulding off before without a single issue. Shouldn't be a problem for pin stripes. |

they make rubber wheels that go on a drill that you can use to remove them |
like posted above, heat if the best way to start, cold and it will just flake off, for solvent u can use a body prep solvent, little nail polish remover with water to dilute it, then u face the problem of what is under the stripe, maybe get yourself an o2 compound polish or lighter to reduce signs of the previous pinstripe ps pressure washers work well also! |
The safest is the rubber wheel on a drill. you just spin it up and work it gently back and forth. Its like a big eraser. |
Yep a Regular Eraser wheel will work for you, Astro Part Number 400E, over in vancouver you could pick one up at Canadian bodyshop supplies. |
Rubber wheel, heat gun are all good methods to take the pin strips off. Afterwards use solvent, or some wax&grease remover to.clean up the residue. If its only a section thats missing, u mite want to just buy the pin strip and just paste it.over the missing area unless its a custom pinstrip, those can be pricey. Cuz using a heat gun and scrapin.all the.sticker off with ur nail can take a while... Lol Posted via RS Mobile |
