Anyone doing the CA Recruitment?

Is anyone else doing the CA recruitment or know someone who is? The deadline is coming up and I might need some help with the applications. I'm studying third-year accounting at UBC. I will pay for any personal help that I get.

Thanks! :D

I can't even get my transcripts in time because I transferred this year. I'm just going to apply for CA Recruitment next year (fourth year). Co-op as well. What does everyone think?

You only needed unofficial transcript :P

Anyways, I applied for only the big 4.... Kinda in a bad position because I won't graduate in time to apply for FT, and from what I heard, they don't usually hire students in 4th+ years for summer intern/co-op :S

Oh well, we'll see how it goes! Good luck to all applicants!

Hope you are in an honors program or have a gpa that is above 4.00/4.33 or 3.80/4.00

Though CA recruitment events are part of the overall strategy of getting into a CATO, I trust that you guys recognize that it is not the only strategy.

A lot of weight should be put on networking outside of the CA recruitment events with those people you know who are already in public practice.

If you don't know anyone in public practice, then there's a good ol' fashion method that I like to call "bangin' on doors." This involves sending targeted cover letters and resumes to HR personnel, senior managers, and those whom you think will have some influence over the hiring process. Follow up the cover letters with a phone call and keep trying.

CA recruitment appears to happen only once a year but the truth is contrary to this. CA firms, small, medium, and large recruit throughout the year as their staffing requirements change. At the firm I'm with, the process for hiring begins around July and are finalized by early August. The new staff would start right after labour day. But we have hired throughout the year as our needs change so you might be able to skip the whole CA recruitment process if you keep trying all year round.

Anyways, good luck to you guys. It takes a bit of luck sometimes. I banged on doors for three months before someone would even give me an interview. Once you land your first public practice gig, it'll be a lot easier to change CATOs should you decide to do so at a later point in time.
