Clay bars?

Anyone knows where I can get some? I don't want to buy that McGuire's kit from Canadian Tire...

dared3vil0 09-14-2012 09:38 PM

I bought the Mother's kit from Canadian Tire, it worked great! If your completely against Canadian Tire (?) Buy some from here: http://www.autowerkesexclusivestore.ca/

broken_arrow 09-14-2012 09:41 PM

I guess I'll have to go with Mother's. I wanted to buy it locally and not over the net...

kccham 09-14-2012 09:50 PM

For what you are describing, Mother's or Meguiars makes no difference though I prefer Meg's.

I'm currently using Sonus and Clay Magic that I got from Ken at Autowerkes Exclusive. I am a bit more into it than your average self detailer though. Not much, just a bit more.

Any particular reason why you're against the Meguiar's?
Or are you just against Crappy Tires?

Spidey 09-15-2012 01:48 PM

I prefer mother's over Megs.. megs leaves a white residue if you don't load on the lubricant.. you end up using way more than you would with the mothers.. this is from my experience. also megs clay bars seem like those sticky poster hangers that you can buy at the stationary dept of a store

no problem with Meguires claybar... smooooth as butter..

the liquid wax on the other hand... rather not buy... not worth it..

I just don't need all the stuff that comes with it... I use Mothers products anyway so I think I'll just go for that. Also, +1 on the white residue for Megs...

I hate claying in general as it takes me the whole day, lol. But I do want and I actually need to do this before the rain begins... BTW, besides Royal Oak coin-op, are there any other self wash places around Vancouver?

On the topic of clay bars, does anyone else find Riccardo yellow clay really sticky, like impossible to get off your hand sticky? I've used Mother's and Megs clays before, and they are not sticky at all.

Gridlock 09-15-2012 04:53 PM

I find the megs and mothers to be interchangeable.

Then I go to the meguiars polish, then yellow wax to finish. I have the more advanced meguiars # system swirl remover if needed.

I use the Megs clay bar,but I don't use the lubricant provided.I find that using a fresh bucket of automotive soap to lube the clay bar works alot better than the lube provided.

Another benefit to using soap s that it cleans the paint as you glide the clay over it.
