Window Tint dilemna
 

OK.. so i picked up this fantastic 4dr sedan... and am loving it.

It is a pre-owned and so the previous owner had the back windows tinted..rather dark.. if i were to guess, i'd think 5% or 20%.. its very dark.

i'm thinking of getting it removed and maybe retinting at 35%...before the dark stormy winter months hit - purely for safety reasons.

i love the dark tint and how it keeps the rear nice and cool not to mention the privacy factor..but at night, backing up is pretty scary as you can't see a whole lot...although the car has a backup camera.

anyone have a similar setup with dark dark tint in the back..if so, how do you manage and do you always do a second look as you back up and/or switch lanes?

I had 5% in my civic and will be getting it on the tsx. I just had led reverse lights and I saw fine.

20% is what I would do for a car, did that with my TL and have no problems, 5% is pree dark lol

mine is at 25 percent.. but i rely on backup sensors and sideview mirrors. Because my work truck rear window is blocked i got used to not relying on it.

I had 20% on my previous car and 5% now, and it's not as bad as some people make it out to be.

It does depend on your eyes though, some people can just see better at night.

Generally there are very few times when you have to reverse in pure darkness, in which case it won't matter if there's tint or not. As for those very rare occurences where tint % does make a difference, just be a bit more careful. Get out of the car if you're not sure.

Did my old car very dark on the sides and went light on the back window so I could see out at night. The dark side windows kept the whole car dark inside for privacy.

i'm going to attempt to 'steam' it off today...as per some youtube DIY videos on tint removal. looks easy enough without damaging anything such as the defroster lines and/or radio antennae.

You're giving up so easily?

Observe your surroundings and use your sideviews when you park. When you're changing lanes, oberve and shoulder check.

It's not that hard. TBH, rear windows aren't really necessary to drive/park. They're convenient but not necessary.

You get used to it over time.

I got 5% tint on all rear windows and have no issues at all. Just look around before you back up and rely on side mirrors.

The trade-off for privacy, looks, and a cooler cabin is worth it.

Should be even easier for you since you have a backup camera...

True dat! Considering I just got the car on sept 15th. Pros of the tint outweigh the cons so lemme run it as is. Whoever did the tint job did an amazing job so no sense in screwing with it yet.

20-25% is what most people do. Gives you the privacy, along with can still see through at night.

Factory tint is usually 25-35%

5% is what we call "limo tint". You basically can't see inside, and might struggle to see outside at night. In a nicely lit up area, you'll do fine. In those darkened alleyways it gets a little brutal IMO.

my daily has alright looking window tint and I was wondering how I'd get it off. duh, youtube. haha
