| Facebook Privates Messages Made Public
So apparently, there's been some sort of glitch which has allowed for old FB messages to be posted up on your timeline. Whether this is 100% accurate or not is yet to be confirmed.
Facebook has been denying this report, but going back into your timeline there's definitely things that weren't on there before. If you go back in your timeline from 2007-09, you'll see a single post with all your wallposts from that year. I would hide it just to be safe one way or the other! Quote:

Some Facebook users are adamantly insisting that private messages they sent to other members are now appearing on their timelines for others to see.
But Facebook says an investigation suggests that’s not the case.
“A small number of users raised concerns after what they believed to be private messages appeared on their timeline. Our engineers investigated these reports and found that the messages were older wall posts that had always been visible on the users’ profile pages,” reads a statement.
“Facebook is satisfied that there has been no breach of user privacy.”
Facebook is estimated to have more than 900 million users worldwide, including about 18 million in Canada.
Canada’s privacy commissioner Jennifer Stoddart has criticized Facebook in the past for not doing enough to let users control their personal information online.
A spokeswoman said Monday that her office is looking into the user complaints.
“If it’s true it would indeed be troubling (but) ... we don’t yet know for sure what’s happening,” said Anne-Marie Hayden.
“We are currently looking into it although we haven’t launched a formal investigation. We do plan to speak with Facebook’s Canadian representatives to ask what’s happening from their point of view and we’re going to continue to monitor the situation very closely.”

My guess is that it's actually posts that were previously marked 'private' or 'certain groups only' but were suddenly made public during one of Facebook's massive overhauls that eradicated a lot of the privacy settings that once existed.
And nobody noticed or cared until you could suddenly jump back to when those posts were made, at which point people started going  | |

I had added my two aunts (had no choice, they were over my shoulders at a family event), but blocked their views to EVERYTHING.
...and then after the last big shift, suddenly there they were, commenting on my wall.
Srsly Facebook, fuck you.

Everything I post on fb I don't care if people see if,zero drugs nothing bad cause I have people from work on there and I don't want them to know about that part. I just stick to my cell if I want to send stuff I don't want public

Just checked... all my PM's from 2007-2010 were all visible to everyone and mixed up with my wall posts so i just ended up hiding everything

| Even if this were true, it probably also has to do with people's perceptions of what they would or would not post publicly now versus then.
I looked back on my Timeline, and there were a few messages there that I thought should be private, but maybe they were actually publicly posted back then.
