LiquidTurbo 10-14-2012 01:25 PM

dachinesedude 10-14-2012 01:27 PM

i wanna see the footage from all the body cameras!

Ludepower 10-14-2012 01:44 PM

Amazing!
noob question....how does he know where he'll land? could he choose to land in brazil or something? haha

twitchyzero 10-14-2012 03:22 PM

so did the team not break any records they set out to attempt?
dont know if there's any solo divers on RS but how does one correct the free fall when you start flopping upside down and stuff?

FerrariEnzo 10-14-2012 03:54 PM

I thought there was the suit cam that he turned on...

I want to see that video!!

jepho 10-14-2012 04:19 PM

the initisl "jump" was so importand because at that height there is not enough air to create wind resistance for him to "steer" potentially putting him into a fatal spin. which is why they had parachutes that would deploy automatically if that happened.

They broke speed record, highest skydive, dont think it was the longest free fall though.... i guess you could say he fell just short:okay:

they had i think 30 different cameras so it should be awesome seeing them once they are released.

geeknerd 10-14-2012 04:31 PM

he didnt break the record because his visor was getting foggy and radio transmission was breaking up so he decided to pull the chute.

the tumbling/spinning was intentional though in the interview he did state the there was a time where he thought he was in trouble.

footage from the suit would probably be released later all edited and probably $$$? or buy redbull and get footage? w.e

to me, it seems like a great feat for 1 person but not really for mankind. just some good 10min entertainment. am i missing something?

Manic! 10-14-2012 04:48 PM

He broke the sound barrier.

There's a lot of data gathering that they were able to due thanks to the jump. They collected data for improvements on next generation pressure suits, high-altitude parachute systems, and development of new ideas for emergency evacuation from vehicles, such as spacecraft, passing through the stratosphere.

Watching this event yesterday, I became more impressed that Kittenger did this over 50 years ago.
I don't know how he fit into his suit with those massive balls he had.
