Those Calgary places look about equivalent in size and price to the Okanagan or the island. Personal preference obviously but if that's what you're shopping for I'm not seeing what the appeal of Alberta is.

Slightly bigger lot in Colwood - for example: https://www.rew.ca/properties/3426-t...eet-colwood-bc
I would say the location of that Colwood house is less convenient than being in Calgary - both to get to amenities and for people who want to visit (short plane ride versus a ferry/drive). The weather would be WAY better though (and no crazy politics)
I love island life so that'd be my first choice but the wife wants to be close to some friends so Calgary is appealing that way.
All that said, I'd still rather be in Vancouver.

Personally I’d take Penticton or Kelowna over the island or Alberta any day

Yah, land vs. that damn ferry ...
If you want close by, water view with just a short ferry ride, Sunshine Coast, Sechelt. I think Sunshine Coast, they only charge one way. And maybe Sunshine Coast residents get special lower rates?

| Vancouver's Real Estate Market
Woke up this morning to the sound of a builder demolishing a former neighbour’s house.
Buddy guy builders bought the house for $1.7 million. Those builders will be my new neighbours in the hood.
They bought the house in May. -took their time to remove insulation. I had concerns about the possibility of asbestos. That house was built in the 1950s. Called the City of Vancouver to ask for an inspector to do an onsite inspection. Filed an online request for an inspection of the property’s backyard.
When I spoke to the inspector on the phone in May, he explained to me that he can check a database to make sure that the builder had the proper demolition and inspection permits. He cannot check the backyard though.
He said that he cannot share with me the results of the house inspection because of privacy laws.
-saw the inspector drive by that house in May in his white hatchback.
This picture was taken in May of that former neighbour’s backyard. Neighbour moved to White Rock. Finally, buddy guy builders are getting rid of the crap in the backyard this week haha:

Did they even do asbestos removal ?! My old house required that when they knocked it down and it took buddy guy all of 1 day to pretend to do it before it was flattened.

Yup, I saw the buddy guy builders wear white Hazmat suits in May when they went inside that former neighbour’s house to remove asbestos.
They most definitely did asbestos removal.
The question is how good a job of removal did those builders do?

The builders just hired a bunch of Indian kids in May to move out these bags of insulation into that backyard after they did their asbestos removal in their Hazmat suits.
What t-shirt dust masks haha. Those kids wore no protective gear.

Presumably the abatement was for drywall
Unless something has changed, insulation behind asbestos containing drywall is also considered to be containing and has to be removed as such.
Just another typical half ass job.
I think even work safe the and govt. basically gave up on trying to enforce safety for abatements because I guarantee you if they showed up to pretty much any buddy guy abatement company they’d all be shut down after a single visit.
On the other hand I think asbestos exposure and the risks are largely overblown, however, not necessarily when you’re spending your life working in clouds of drywall dust

It's all about the abatement business owner hiring labour ready guys to do the job and give the customer a fat bill because the builder can't demo without that certificate from the abatement business saying its done. And the city will just look to that certificate as proof of it being done. Half ass job and still get paid. The labour ready guys just see it as putting food on the table.

Nah. Even labour ready crack heads ain’t that dumb.
When we were doing an abatement I hired a temp guy to simply toss the drywall bags into the dumpster. The guy tripped when he saw how we were decked out and phoned the labour company and they forced us to sign off on a half day when buddy was just whining about it. There was nothing dangerous about it but the temp labour agencies definitely train people to avoid situations like being stuck in an abatement
From what I’ve seen it looks way more like just exploiting TFW and friends/family who have no clue what they are getting into.
For any abatement you should have a full PAPR respirator, it’s a fully powered positive pressure full enclosed respirator, the 3M ones run about $1000 a pop with a battery. I’ve never once seen anyone doing an abatement actually wearing these

Not all labour ready workers are the same. Probably more will just do the work than refuse the work. Had multiple days worth of work available for 3 guys. 2nd day only 2 returned. Asked the guy who hired the labour and he said the guy who didn't return just went back to base to wait for an easier job.

A friend of mine did a full gut job reno on a 60s era house near Tupper and no asbestos abatement was required.

you're not allowed to dispose of drywall (properly, unless it's brand new) without testing documentation....not that that can't be faked
