Excelsis 10-08-2012 09:42 PM

the real "Kony" is the government, and these people trying to pursue Kony

.. i don't know how this can be anymore obvious

Ronin 10-08-2012 09:52 PM

I don't care much about these things to begin with but I care so much less when hipsters tell me I should.

LiquidTurbo 10-08-2012 10:55 PM

I remember when Facebook was flooded with shares of the Kony 2012.. oh man.

Yodamaster 10-08-2012 11:18 PM

Just let it be, I don't understand why we're spending so much to support a country on the other side of the planet. The same goes with the conflicts in the middle east, I don't see why we are still there. Just leave it all alone and let them figure out their own problems, we have enough back home.

Think of how far that money could go towards improving our own situation, our roads are in shambles, we have transit that doesn't even operate 24/7, and students are getting fucked up the ass with tuition. Not to mention the fact that many families in Canada are struggling with the costs of living.

Kony is the least of our problems.

I agree. Just looking at Canada and the US, we have homelessness, families struggling to get by, unemployment, etc.

But if you're asking why, it's special interest groups that influences our country. Not us. Look at how much money Romney and Obama can raise. Romney raised $12 million after his debate with Obama. When many of us has a hard time getting a credit limit over $20K.

So you're willing to waste tax dollars on finding some lunatic on the other side of the planet, over making life easier for people who need it in our own country?

Want a more expensive example? Osama Bin Laden.

It's none of our business, it's down to the regional police/military to take Kony down on their own if they feel like he's a threat to national security.

Let me say it again, IT'S NONE OF OUR BUSINESS.

And before you pull the Hitler card, like it or not, we went there to stop Hitler from taking over Europe, then we freed any jewish prisoners that remained.

That's because no one gives a shit about Africa. No one ever did, and never will.

And from good family friends that have lived extensively in Africa, even in some of the worst places things are not as bad as they are portrayed on the sob story donation infomercials, these people have lived the way they have forever, it's the only thing they know and they get by, by the time you donate $50 to Africa by the time it gets there its pennies..

What are you thoughts on countries sending aid after natural disasters? Earthquake in Haiti? Tsunami in the South Pacific?

I kinda see where your coming from, but your examples are fucked, and irrelevant to this situation. Nobody that actually understands charities really gave money to this shit, only people that thought it would be awesome to write about it on Facebook. That money would have stayed in their pockets otherwise to save up for a new apple product or accessory. While everyone can agree Canada should put ourselves first, I'd much rather have charitable money going to places that need it than going to fixing a fucking road. Thats humanity, and Canada has always put being a charitable, helpful country at the top of its list, and in many ways it benefits canada. I do however agree we have plenty of homelessness, hunger, drug problems, in our own country that should take precedence over the same problems happening somewhere else. I mean, its not like red cross and other umbrella charities even gave the nod, or money to this sham. People need to be diligent on understanding what charities they give their money to, and need to realize NO ONE is giving 10 dollars for every "like" to some flavour of the week cause. These weren't canadian tax dollars, or even dollars given to legitimate charities. This was peoples personal money put in the wrong place.

Dont get me wrong, shit is -fucked- over there, but it's totally not the situation in most of Africa that is potrayed on TV, i'm sure there are many places that are in dire, dire straights but these pictures are from some of the places that were considered amongst the worst of the worst not many years ago

People do the best they can there and actually appreciate things they have, obviously when you have a mill in the vicinity prosperity comes with that but when only a single digit percentage work there, there is still unimaginable poverty

Problems like Kony and shit dont concern these people, they try to move away from troubles of the past not dwell on them like Invisible Children would have you believe

if you want to help places like this, send shoes and books and toiletries not fucking money to some scam artist.

dinosaur 10-10-2012 04:22 PM

I think the above proves why I (and many others) finding is irritating when people say, "Africa is fucked".

Its the second biggest continent...its fucking huge.

Its like saying, "North America is fucked" because of drug cartels in Mexico.

A natural disaster is different than a failure to take down a lunatic on your own, the Ugandan government should be the primary means of getting rid of Kony, they will learn nothing about how to treat threats like this if they have countries like ours spoon feeding them.

A natural disaster is an extraordinary circumstance, no man or woman is to blame for the forces of nature, and there is nothing to learn from until order is restored. Get them back on their feet and leave.

Massacres are preventable, natural disasters are not.
