This might sound crazy, but I recommend harry Rosen. Just give them your budget and they will do their best to assist you eh. I highly recommend Chad from the pc location.

J.C 10-12-2012 05:45 PM

sounds very crazy lol
i thought all they had was like $700+ suits

i'll probably be going to moores for the buy 1 get 1 free <- they have those buy one get one frees like every week lol

If ur only gonna wear it a couple times, i say goto Metrotown and buy whatever u find for what your budget is. For what ur spending, all i be concerned about is fitment. So try them on and bring a friend along to help u.

sorry to hijack the thread
i'm looking for a suit myself for a friends wedding
it needs to be a grey suit
now I dont wear suits for work or business occasions so I want something a bit more fashion forward/trendy rather than conservative.

Budget is around $1000, was looking at a Versace or Burberry From Nordstorm....of maybe a ZZenga from Harry Rosen...any other brands you guys recommend I check out for around this price point?

For that price point, Z Zegna hands down.

Z Zegna is suited towards the more modern styles, so shorter length of the jacket, slimmer fit, etc. The plus side, it's cheaper than the E. Zegna traditional line. Also, they will tailor it for you free of charge (if they don't talk about it, bring it up). Make sure to go for the Drop8 Fit (it's slim). It depends on your body type as well, but even if you do squats/big legs/a bit chunky, slim is always better.

Even if I had more to spend, I personally wouldn't invest in something from Versace. Burberry, maybe yes but it's hard to find something you could wear years down the road with your current budget. Also, it would probably be best to physically be in the store when buying suits.

Just a word of advice / handy tip:

Watch out for suits in the USA. Some brands (Boss in particular) vary slightly in terms of fit and material. The same make/model can be found in Canada and the US but the ones in Canada are typically 100% wool made in Italy while the fit/cut and material in the USA is a blend of materials, and is made elsewhere (if any of this matters to you.)

J.C 10-15-2012 09:58 PM

ended up getting one at moores from the buy 1 get 1, anyone want to pick up a suit there and split the costs accordingly?

Along the same line if you're concerned about quality.... Quality-wise, the Z Zegna line is most likely going to be fused in terms of construction. Have you tried Coppley MTM at HR? It won't have an 8 drop, but I think (you'll have to check) they're still half canvassed.

Yea I haven't looked at coppley yet
I will hit up HR this friday when I come back to town
I think you are right about zzenga being fused though.

I don't know because I haven't compared prices between them. Even then, it will save you further time and hassle if you go to the store (which you are as you said in your last post) since you won't have to return/pay shipping fees if the suit from Nordstrom isn't up to your expectations.

skiiipi 10-16-2012 06:46 PM

Well I was planning on physically going to a nordstorm as well.
But was going to skip the hassel of going down south if pricing was similar.

i feel like its a little bit loose in the lower half of my upper body, but idk first time wearing a suit

bcrdukes 10-18-2012 11:19 PM

Did you get the suit fitted/tailored?

If not, get it done right, son.

Looks like they didn't bring the waist in on the jacket. Whoever fit you should've taken that into consideration unless you have a belly but by the the sounds of it, you don't. Take some pictures for us to see so we have an idea of what needs done. There should be some slack at the waist but not too much because you'd look like a goof. You don't wear a suit to look like a goof.

skiiipi 10-20-2012 07:29 PM

So ended up getting a Gucci OTR from Nordstorm.
Fully Canvased, trim fit.
Went over budget by a bit.....but suit was significantly nicer than ZZenga at $1200-1300 range and nicer than DG at the $1800-1900 range.

Also grabed a Boss shirt, tie and a gucci belt to complete the look

Spidey 10-24-2012 06:38 PM

Ive said it before.. but I rather wear a suit that is a blend and FITS good, than a 2000 dollar suit that doesn't.

Harvey Specter 10-27-2012 04:20 AM

Burberry has nice, slim suits and very well priced. I've never been a fan of ZZenga suits, I owned one and it never really fit that well and Gucci suits are made by Zegna.

Obviously a mtm suit would be the best fitting suit money can buy and surprisingly Harry Rosen's mtm service isn;t all that expensive.

unit 10-27-2012 03:49 PM

bespoke would be the best money can buy, then mtm

Ronin 10-27-2012 07:43 PM

Go to the States. You'll save a couple hundred bucks. Macy's or whatever usually has a decent selection of CK, Tommy Hilfiger, Alfani, etc sort of cheaper designer brands in your price range.

Try to find one that fits you as well as possible and then bring it back to a good tailor. A good tailor makes a cheap suit look like an expensive suit. It's all about the fit.

And if you're going to prom, for the love of god, do not buy a dark shirt, silver tie and dark suit. Anything that can be described as gangster or whatever...you will look at that picture years later and go "WHAT THE FUCK WAS I THINKING?". Go with simple, slim, timeless. You will look so much cooler than all the douchebags in their baggy dress pants and suits three sizes too big.

When their Samuelsohn mtm goes on sale, it's pretty hard to beat that price for something that is full canvassed.

J.C 10-27-2012 07:46 PM

well i got everything together now
pics will be up later or tomorrow
