Such a sad story. I blame her parents, not bullying. Yes bullying is what pushed her to suicide, yes another child went to far (his parents failed him too) but at the end of the day with proper parental involvement this could have been avoided.
Of course everyone says the shcool is to blame the kids are to blame bla bla bla well whos suppose to raise the kids and whos kids are populating these schools.
The parents.

While there may be a grain of truth to that, after doing major research into teen suicides, the role of "improper parenting" plays into a teen committing suicide is actually quite low. Many teens don't tell their parents about things going on in their life, especially if it's about being bullied. Yes, the kids may make some hint as to what's going on, but it's usually hidden in some other meaning or may come across as a random comment that doesn't require closer inspection. Even most normally adjusted teens don't share much with their parents apart from generic random events about school or what their friends have been up to. For bullied kids, they're even less likely to open up about their bullies because many perceive it to be a weakness and that they've failed at something -- exactly what that is, is personal to only that person... but failed nonetheless.

No, proper parenting vs poor parenting doesn't really factor into most cases.

Iceman-19 10-11-2012 06:40 PM

Lomac, the poor girl drank bleach, and overdosed on pills. What more of a hint did her moron parents need! I feel for that girl so much, I literally broke down into tears while watching that video........being a victim of excessive bullying while going to school in Maple Ridge, I can definitely understand what she was going through. People can be downright fucking cruel. RS beatdown crew for the guy that chased her and tormented her online, and the guy that fucked her and then got her beat up. I wish I had seen that video before this happened, I would have totally reached out to that poor girl. Such a waste......fuck you to anyone that says otherwise, dont like it, fuck you again.

SumAznGuy 10-11-2012 06:42 PM

Count me in for RS beat down crew.

Watch all the hipsters wear pink anti-bullying shirts and change their profile pic to some anti bullying flyer tomorrow.

I'm sure parents / school / kid shares blame.

shitty it had to hit the news for people to realize.

these people are the ones that just stand around and let this shit happen.
You see someone get bullied and they dont have the tools to deal with it then help them.

Kidnapman 10-11-2012 07:43 PM

The world is cruel, this is the reality. If you don't toughen up when you fall, you'll just fall again and again till one day the glass which you stand on shatters to your peril.

rsx 10-11-2012 07:44 PM

Parents are fucking idiots.

nns 10-11-2012 08:05 PM

Where does it say what steps the parents did and didn't do, that ultimately contributed to their daughter's suicide?

I don't know how people can blame the parents when there aren't any facts to back it up. Sounds like you guys are jumping to conclusions. Her own video doesn't seem to have her expressing any bias against her parents.

Iceman-19 10-11-2012 08:09 PM

Im sorry, but how can you allow shit like that to happen, and not get involved, when your daughter attempts to kill herself several times, cuts herself, changes schools 3 times, moves, etc. If you cant figure out thats a cry for help, you need fucking help.

nns 10-11-2012 08:11 PM

Not trying to turn this into a huge debate. Let me ask this: what did your parents do to stop your bullying?

Or how would the parents stop strangers on the internet from harassing her daughter?

BrRsn 10-11-2012 08:14 PM

it was just a really bad combination of everything imo

Parents were divorced (assuming that's what she meant by 'staying at my moms')
Online bully pressuring her for sexual favors
Guy takes her virginity for fun
Gets beat up by the guy (indirectly) who took her virginity, at the same time it was probably announced to the entire school what went down between the 2 of them
On antidepressants and anxiolytics which has shown a link in increased suicidal tendencies in youth.

Poor girl, just had way too much stuff going against her. RIP .. video is heartbreaking

How can you guys blame the parents? They probably work full time, and while they're at work she was unsupervised. The parents were caught in the middle of trying to keep a roof over their heads and raise a troubled child. And I'm pretty sure most teens aren't very open about their sex lives with their parents (which was kind of the last straw for her). Unless you're blaming the parents of the other kids?

Wow, we have some real CIA operatives here. Shit. I underestimated the Revscene userbase.

MindBomber 10-11-2012 08:19 PM

I think some members of RevScene are forgetting what it is to be a teen.

She was a very pretty girl, and if her last wish was to reach out to other struggling teens, she had a beautiful heart as well.

ToneCapone 10-11-2012 08:23 PM

Damn that's rough. RIP Amanda.

Parenting is everything.

I wish there was some mandatory course parents had to take during pregnancy as well as multiple repeats until the kid is 19. One that teaches them the cause and effect as well as the psychology involved with raising a child. It should teach things like proper punishements, how to deal with certain situations, and even how to toughen your kid up. And I will go as far as to say if you don't pass the first lesson within 10 weeks of labor: you are unfit to raise a child and abort the baby.

I'm sure these parents are going to say exactly the same as what all failure parents say "I didn't know"... To me, that's a piss poor excuse. Education is the best way to counter this response.

blakgtp 10-11-2012 08:30 PM

to me this shows how kids should not have unsupervised internet time at such a young age. it's a growing problem these days with a VERY SIMPLE SOLUTION. Take away their social media access at a young age. Give them those privileges once they are old enough to protect themselves.

I feel greatly for this girl and her family. Really hate to see stuff like this. It's just not right.

ps. the guy who distributed the photos, is scum of the earth

My mom did as much as she could, my dad I never talked to about it. I eventually just stopped going to school down here, and moved away. I didnt want to talk about it because I was embarrassed about it. I never went to the extremes she did, but I was not tormented like she was either, but I had a couple really lousy moments..

So I do think the parents are REALLY in the wrong here. I take it you never watched the video? She had some very very loud cries for help leading up to this.
