Two problems related to ventilation
 

My car is starting to smell like cockroach whenever I turn on defroster. Is this because there is a lot of gunk stuck somewhere on the outside ventilation? How do I get rid of the smell coming from my ventilation?

Now that winter is coming, weather is getting colder, the inside of my car is fogging up. I have to turn on the defroster with A/C to clear fogs, but after shutting off A/C, it comes back. The only workaround I am using is blast the defroster at highest temperature for like 15 minutes to warm up the windshield and then keep at low warm temp. Anyone know a better way?

Unexplainable. When I was little back in Malaysia, cockroaches crawl around our house like house spiders around here. Once we smell it, we know one is near. It would also leave the smell behind its trail like on our pillow and stuff.

Put some gauze on your vents, turn your AC full on. spray some lysol in the AC intake, then change the air filter (use carbon ones if your car manufacturer makes them).

It is mould in the air pipes that causes the smell. The only way is to park in a dry area, turn your AC off way before you turn off your car, so less condensation build up in those dark vent areas.

Usually near the bulk head? it depends on which car you have.

Like previously posted, first replace the cabin filter. They also make this foam stuff that you spray directly into the vents that is supposed to kill all th e bacteria. My AC smelled like death earlier this year so I had it done. Cost me like $150 at the stealership.

In my Legacy, if you spray a bleach mixture into the ventilation air intake (not your cars), it'll kit the bacteria that that nasty smell.

If anyone's curious I picked up Lloyds eco air at lordco. Same concept, a tube you stick into the vent and spray for 3 seconds each. 12.99

[speculation]The evaporator coil is typically in dash mounted above the front passenger footwell. Black plastic box above feet.
There is a condensate drain tube which becomes blocked.
Smelly condensate brew ensues. This can overflow into the cabin.
I blow out the tube with compressed air, you will see the tube end under the car below the passenger footwell.
Absent a compressed air source poke a pipe cleaner or similar in there to clear the blockage. Dust off would work.

1) replace cabin filter
2) run some a/c cleaner mist, the smell in the system is usually mildew.
3) ozonate the interior
4) if those 3 dont fix it, then gotta clean the evaporator.
5) if that doesnt fix it, something is dead in ur system.
