Managing and Storing Photo Library I'm quickly running out of space on my macbook and I haven't been able to find a really optimal solution on how to move and store my photos on an external NAS but also keeping my Lightroom catalog intact. For those of you with a large photo library how do you manage it? Do you delete all of the photos you don't like or move them onto a different drive and be done with it? It seems it'd be a bit more tedious for me to have to go through all of my photos and delete the ones I didn't like (I never really flagged my photos in the past and usually just edited them if I liked it). Also, once your photos are in a different location, how does your workflow change? Do you store them on your computer, edit, then transfer to a NAS? I'm kind of looking for an optimal solution that doesn't get too tedious in the long run. Thanks |
Just a short summary of what I do. MBP HD - LR catalog, no image files HD1 - original files / LR Catalog backup HD2 - backup of HD1 1 pass through card on camera, quick delete of obvious blurry/misfocus. 2 passes through lightroom. 1st = I reject pictures that I couldn't tell if it was misfocus cause of small LCD screen on camera. 2nd = reject multiples/burst that are weird (ie, blinking, movement) And then....edit. Works for me, I could do it better/have more backup... |
^^^ Pretty much sums it all up! :) |
Yup. Mine is similar. Quick pass through on camera Import pics to pc hdd Lightroom passes Concurrently my system schedules a daily backup everyday to my dual hdd nas. |
