Iphone 4 No Service? Factory restore question my 15 months old iphone 4 suddenly stopped working yesterday.. Actually everything works fine except I get no reception from the network...it just keep on saying "Searching....> NO SERVICE" on the top left corner. I tested other people's sim card on my phone too and got the same problem. Tried restarting it many times, resetting the network setting, and rebooting by holding the top and home button...nothing worked. As a last resort..I was just going to do a factory restore on the phone via itunes, but I am wondering if it is possible to restore the phone to factory setting without updating to ios6 (I am currently on 5.1.1, and wanna keep using google map) Phone is stock (locked to rogers and not jailbreak) *Actually...should I even bother trying to do a factory restore? (The no service problem seems more like a hardware problem than a software problem..) |
iPhone 4 right? you must be holding it wrong :troll: On a more serious note, I would contact Rogers or Apple Store (for apple store they will update to iOS6). Also did you update to the current Rogers setting? http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1970 ^ I suspect doing check update would prompt iTunes to look for iOS 6 as well.... |
do you have a cut sim or an actual mini sim? it might not be lining up...tap it where you have the sim... i cut a sim for my wife's phone and when it gets 'dropped' it would do this... |
this happens alot to iPhones....a little more than usual. Ive only seen it happen to iphone 4's though. Its a software problem. No matter how many resets you do, it's always going to be searching for a network. Whats even more frustrating is that sometimes you get 1 bar...and it's just shit reception. Happened to 3 people that I know. They never fixed the problem and just gave up |

occasionally I would get 1 tiny bar of reception...but usually it disappears within 1-2 minutes If it is a software problem wouldn't a complete restore fix it? (Btw...I already did a factory restore and updated to newest ios yesterday, same problem) So what do they do with these out of warranty phones...? paper weight? :fuckthatshit: |
Even though its out of warranty, take it to Apple. They are pretty good with stuff like this. Don't bother calling Rogers unless you want to hear a sales pitch. They will just refer you to Apple. Posted via RS Mobile |

guy checked the phone and said there were no water or physical damage, and told me I could pay $169+tax to get a new (refurb) replacement.. not sure if it is worth it tho... :okay: i could get a new ip5 for $179+tax on a 3 years contract (I don't really mind having a contract anyway since I will always need the phone service) |
We can work out something ;) "DO NOT UPDATE" bring it to me I can fix it for you. |
