Need help with Windows Vista Ultimate 64Bit...

Hey guys i just realized there is a bunch of weird stuff that happened when i caught a virus last time. I had my windows update service gone and disabled, but managed to repair it with Fixit...

Now when i try to update i get a error (If you receive Windows Update error 80246008 while downloading updates, you might need to change the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) or Windows Event Log service settings, and then restart each service.) Now i cant find the service anywhere and I'm afraid its missing. I went to look online how to get it fixed up but unfortunately i can't seem to find anything that helps me. (i found bunch of articles of me fixing it in my registry, but when i go to do so i can't seem to find the folders that i need) Anyways i scanned the pc with FSS and there is actually few more problems.

CAN ANYONE PITCH IN?

Time to back up and reformat..

bloodline129 10-30-2012 11:42 AM

If i run my cd and choose repair instead of reinstalling it all, would that fix it ?

bloodline129 10-30-2012 11:43 AM

kinda hesitant in doing it so i figured i asked for other solutions 1st. :)

Thx

If a virus causes problems to the O/S, there's no point in trying to repair it. Your best option is to backup whats most important and then reload windows. This is the penalty for downloading a virus this severe.

I think Windows has a repair function that will repair its core files. Not guaranteed to work though - but could be something you could try.

That said, I think Windows 7 is worth upgrading to, and is a much, MUCH, better OS than Windows Vista. Even Windows 8 - which is only $40 right now - will make your life a lot easier. Vista was just a very unstable OS that isn't very user-friendly.

Open cmd

Type in sfc /scannow.

If it finds windows files that are tampered, it tries to fix it. The problem may be too big then you can try system restore. If nothing works, reinstall.
