For drift fans it's probably sad news that Initial D is really looking into less drifting and more "how to win races" from here on.

That's what seems to be happening in the manga for a while now.

I was getting kind of tired of it too, way too much pit time talking and not enough racing.

To be honest they couldn't just keep the manga going on about drifting and still be fresh. It's a lot less entertaining for the anime, no doubt, but driving theory isn't necessarily bad.

I've never understood how 4WD/FWD cars could drift around corners in Initial D.

FWD, RWD, and AWD can all drift. The difference primarily lies in how the drift is induced, and what you need to do to keep that drift going.

Also, contrary to what Initial D may or may not be suggesting, everyone knows that drifting isn't the fastest way to get around a course, right?

For me, art + cars = instant win for me. Personally love both and when they are put together like initialD it's awesome.
