NY Times review of Guy Fieri's new restaurant

ouch.

What exactly about a small salad with four or five miniature croutons makes Guy’s Famous Big Bite Caesar (a) big (b) famous or (c) Guy’s, in any meaningful sense?

Hey did you try that blue drink, the one that glows like nuclear waste? The watermelon margarita? Any idea why it tastes like some combination of radiator fluid and formaldehyde?

LOL never really liked guy, too obnoxious and at times i have a feeling he doesnt know shit about good food. He just goes out and eats smoked meats and deep fried everything and describes the food with stupid ass words and thinks hes hot shit.

"You gotta eat here" with John Cattuci is 10x better than the shit show diners drive ins and dives.

He's a normal guy thats eating food anyone can eat and thats the whole point of the show. You don't have to be rich to eat where he goes and thats one of the with advantages. That being said it doesn't mean his resturant will be good.

Have you seen the episode where John goes to a pizza place called Baffo's in Ontario? He got to try the CHOCOLATE BROWNIE BANANA SPLIT PIZZA!!!! OMG! I WANT IT!

donjalapeno 11-15-2012 01:53 PM

i've seen them all, and they're all entertaining and John is a great host really funny.

That restaurant seats 500 people, I don't think it's suppose to be fine dining. Maybe the food is bad, but seems like the columnist has a personal vendetta against Fieri.

Matlock 11-15-2012 03:37 PM

I hate Guy Fieri. Most obnoxious guy on the food channel.

Who wants some "Mac-daddy-roni"? Just call it goddamned macaroni.

This.

The whole point of the show is to show off local joints, you don't have to be a food connoisseur to do that. He's just flamboyant and rowdy, the type you'd expect to host a show primarily about greased up fatty foods.

Jimmy Fallon was talking about this on late night and so he gave out $25 dollar gift certificates to everyone in the audience to Guy's new restaurant a few nights ago, courtesy of Guy.

bcrdukes 11-20-2012 10:18 AM

The article was written by the NY Times. Anybody who knows their target audience and political and social stance would not take it seriously.

That or the writer woke up half drunk and high off of the cocaine consumed off of a hooker's ass and had to brew up this shit show of a writing piece.

Would you care to expand on this?

bcrdukes 11-20-2012 11:46 AM

Short and sweet answer:

The NY Times caters to a wealthier white collar crowd. Not to the masses, which is what Guy Fieri's restaurant is all about. Also, take note of the overall writing style of the NY Times.

The writer was overall, being an unnecessary dick. He has his moments and makes his point as if the establishment is poisoning the New York restaurant scene but he went above and beyond to make this a mass murder. Next thing we know, he'll be reviewing McDonald's or The Hard Rock Cafe.

donjalapeno 11-20-2012 03:37 PM

^ that is true but still i found the article hilarious because i hate fieri

OTG-ZR2 11-21-2012 01:30 AM

Seems like the writer had a huge chip on his shoulder, but I did enjoy the humor.

A little bit of bashing is expected for a food critic.

Anthony Bourdain has shown with "No Reservations" that it is totally possible to have a show that is nearly exclusively focused on eating at "hole in the wall" locations around the globe that is educational, interesting, and damn entertaining. Guy Fieri's show is a concept that should have never made it past a cocktail napkin in a bar.

all i gotta say is that guy fieri is on food network too much. i can turn on the tv in the morning, afternoon or late night and his show would be on!

Verdasco 11-21-2012 10:36 PM

anthony bourdain's no reservation is 1000x better

100%agree! But I personally love Fieri, though I can see how aome may consider him too much. This is his TV personality. Loveit or hate it not everyone will agree.

I walked past the place and it was only about 1/4 full during dinner time.

Guess the word got out about how shitty it was :lol

Great68 11-23-2012 06:20 AM

I think I would give Fieri more credit if he were an actual chef.

I agree Catucci is WAY better.

Ronin 11-23-2012 12:16 PM

To be fair, everyone is panning Fieri's new restaurant, not just the NY Times.
