So I finally received a call back from the police officer today(was told latest dec.17, todays the 18th), and he has a agreed to pay for my passport. Glad, he owned up to his mistake, however it took them 24 days to make up their mind! Finally, i can put this ordeal behind me :grinno: |
Glad to hear that. Is he going to notify the Feds that he lost it so it can be placed on CPIC and US and Interpol systems as missing, or are you going to have to do that? |
Ok so if you loose or misplace your DL your a goof, moron, idiot, fag whatever for driving until that's remedied. Is that what I'm to understand right now? You still have a licence to drive even if you are not carrying it on yourself people jeeze. That's like saying if you loose or misplace your Carecard don't dare go to the hospital or doctors till you get that remedied first cus youd be an idiot to do that too. Great you've never lost your woopty fuckin doo charlie brown. |
If you lose your license just go to ICBC and get one of the temporary paper ones... |
Yes, but some very enlightened people here are suggesting that if you lose your DL, you can't enter your car anymore because there is some magical barrier that you dare not cross, and to drive your car without one should be punishable by the chair. And if you were doing the next reasonable thing and carrying another piece of government issued ID in the meanwhile, and that ID is misplaced by a third party, it's still entirely your fault for losing your DL in the first place. :fulloffuck: |
Phil, you always seem to sum situations up just right. |

Pretty sure I was in and out of the Surrey location in less than 15mins with a new license on the way and a paper one in my pocket. |

More to the point then: if you loose or misplace your DL your[sic] a goof, moron, idiot, fag whatever for coming on RS and whining when you do get a fine for not producing it. You know the consequences, you take the risk... you get busted, you suck it up like a man. |
I've driven a few times without my wallet (idiocy and forgetting to bring it with me). I typically don't carry my passport, but I do remember my DL# (easily memorized, luckily). I fully expect the fine if I'm caught without it and I wouldn't criticize anyone who forgot theirs. Though especially when dealing with a passport I'm super paranoid and worry excessively when someone else has it. |

So what if you misplaced it or forgot it at home? You pay a fine, pay the penalty and move on. It's not an idiot move or a stupid move just because you think that you'll never do it. Reality check, TONS of people forget their licenses everyday. Not everyone has the same routine as everyone. Not everyone carries their license in their wallets or carry their wallets around with them everywhere. Some do and it has become routine for them which is why it might sound stupid for someone to forget their license at home. But like I said, not everyone works the same way as you and one way isn't the right way or the wrong way. |

I'm assuming the po explained the ticket and perhaps you even had to sign to acknowledge it. Now my question is, why did you drive off without your passport? I mean, he did return your insurance papers (again, assuming he took those as well) once he was done? |
Is this thread really still going along? |
Bingo. Not having your drivers license on you when you are required to produce it does not mean that you don't have a license. If one loses their license, it doesn't mean that they have lost the ability to drive. I think a few people in here seem to think otherwise. There is a reason why you get a measly fine for this infracting; it's to discourage people from purposely leaving it at home. A drivers license is a quick, easy and solid proof that you are authorized to drive a vehicle, and that is all.
You know, of all the people who could not produce their DL on the spot when I stopped them....by a huge overwhelming majority the reason they didn't produce is because they didn't have one. They were prohibited, suspended, DL was expired, or they were hiding their true identity to escape some sort of legal process, that sort of thing. In my experience most drivers do not forget their DL. They remember their keys and wallet and other stuff but most people do not normally take their DL out of their wallet. I spent years waiting for drivers who struggled to get the &&*(())!!! thing out from behind that shrunken plastic window. Not saying nobody does forget it, just that very few do. |

I've been told that your DL picture is encoded in the magnetic stripe on the back of your DL. The card swipe terminal in PCs now give everything but the picture. If the picture was available then it would mean instant verification at roadside when you gave your name, DSOB and "code word". Unless you had an identical twin. It would allow Police to positively ID...but it would NOT allow other drivers to ID you, like after a crash when you have to exchange info. That is also a requirement that could not be met without an actual DL. |
