doritos, just use your 3 winters and 1 all season. Mount the 2 winters in the back and the 1 winter and 1 all season in the front. These guys are too focused on proving each other wrong with their huge E-peens. Some of the replies here are just.. :fulloffuck:

Prolowtone 12-07-2012 12:46 AM

What tires do you even have?

westopher 12-07-2012 12:48 AM

They are the rarest/best tires on earth, and they don't exist anymore, but only he will find one soon.

The_AK 12-07-2012 01:00 AM

3 snows and a donut wrapped in tire chains

ITS SUPER SPECIAL TIRE THAT NOT EXIST EVER IN WORLD ANYMORE SO I CANT GET TIRE" If you are driving in Vancouver for a few days, its not going to make a difference. Ever seen someone drive on a spare?

SumAznGuy 12-07-2012 08:16 AM

OP, which model of snow tire do you have from Continental?

Telling us might help you get that 1 elusive tire.
Also, what size?

Achilles ATR Sport are ok for summer only. Never ever ever use them in the snow. You will not be able to move.

this isn't the answer you wanted to know, it's just what you wanted to hear.

What everyone else has been telling you is the right answer, just not the one you wanted to hear.

When you spin and hit a tree, you think bloodmack is going to be responsible? :suspicious:

In wet, whatever setup will be fine as long as you don't drive like a douche. In the snow, that setup will ruin you.

Snow Tire Q&A - Five questions (and answers) about snow tires

" If you have a front-wheel-drive car and put snow tires on the front only, the back wheels won't have anywhere near as much grip as the front wheels. This will make the car much more likely to spin out while braking or cornering.

Snow tires: When you only have two and a front wheel drive van, do you put on back or front.? - Yahoo! Answers

"The tire guy is absolutely RIGHT, in fact no reputable tire shop will install two winter tires on the front of any vehicle. Grippier tires on the front will make the vehicle extremely unstable in situations in which you need control, going around corners and braking, do you want the rear end to spin around every time you go to stop on a wet or icy road?"

Cooper Tire US - Winter Tires

" DO NOT apply winter/snow tires only to the front axle. This applies to all passenger and light truck vehicles including front-wheel-drive, 4WD, and AWD vehicles. WARNING! Without winter/snow tires on the rear axle, which have comparable traction qualities to the tires on the front axle, the vehicle may experience adverse handling characteristics"

You can go eat a dick.

so are you kal tire, canadian tire or walmart employee?

:nyan::nyan::nyan:

dn53 12-07-2012 01:11 PM

I used to work for Canadian tire and now I work for Honda. Although it is not recommended to run two sets of mismatched tires, it would definitely be best to put them on the rear, regardless if it's rwd or Fwd (don't even think about doing this on a awd say goodbye to the diff ). We even have a bulletin sent out by Honda telling us to put the snow tires in the rear and basically all Hondas are Fwd. The last thing you want is to have the rear fishtail out when stopping suddenly

Anyway I would put two snow tires on the rear and your two atrs on the front. Wait for the snow tire to come and then throw them both on. Ps I have the achilles tires and they suck ass.. LOL

I don't need the internet, i have real world results.

how many people here have run 2 snow tires on the front with good all seasons on the back? probably a lot. I have done it for many years. i've also been working in the auto industry the last 5 years (not for an awesome shop like can tire tho) and i've put plenty of snow tires on, and many of them have been just 2, in the front, of fwd cars. i've never ever ever heard of a car with 2 front snow tires crashing because the front tires have SO MUCH FUCKING GRIP compared to the rear tires, even with people using bald ass rear tires.

common fucking sense man, use it. the rear tires are along for the ride, and you have to fuck shit up pretty bad (not just hit the brakes) to loop a fwd car with only snow tires on the front.

i'm not going to get into every car i've owned and what snow tires i've had before but i've been around a lttle longer than the average kid who'se been brain washed by a manafacturer video telling pre-apprentices to put the best tires on the rear so they can sell more tires.

I will say that i live in squamish and go to whistler all the time, and i only have 2 snow tires on my fwd car, using really good all seasons on the back. i also drive my car as agressively as one can do in a turbo 1.4 fwd, but i've never lost my shit in the snow, full lock up, turning, speeding whatever the fuck i want, and not once have i ever had the slightest feeling of my rear end coming around, and if i fucked up so bad that my rear end wanted to start doriftoing like a fucking champ, i can guarantee that no snow tire is going to hold me back from becoming the next DK.

so in conclusion

I have no idea why Mattracks are so exorbitantly priced, it's not a complicated concept.

The ones pictured are made by American Track Truck, and are reasonably priced at around $10,000.

If you look closely, I believe those are actually modified steelies bolted to the hubs. Very simple, and probably totally sufficient.

I was reading a thread somewhere, I think it may have been pirate4x4, where a guy was building his own "mattracks" and I think each ones was still heading up costing him around 5k... I THINK.

Jist of it is, they're priced high because they are indeed relatively expensive to make as well as labour intensive.

That being said, I still think they're overpriced haha.
