I thought it was pretty good up until the San Francisco scene... Then it went bad. Just a very sloppy ending.

7seven: I really can't stand all these idiots who hit the gym now just because they watched 300 and want to be like a spartan. Case in point, this skinny guy comes into the gym the other day, must have only weighed ~ 140lbs, loads on 2 plates on the bench rack, mutters to himself, for sparta, unracks the barbell and proceeds to drop it directly on his chest.

Well come on, Gene DID originally promote Trek as a "wagon train to the stars", a western in space, essentially... and what's a good western without a fist-fight on top of a speeding train?

I really wanted to get a picture of them, but it would have felt kinda creepy. I did compliment them on the outfits, though. I take it you were in the AVX showing as well?

fucking sherlock was a badass. the movie exceeded my expectations. theres a much deeper meaning in this film as opposed to the first with parallels to the dark knight with regards to the theme of sacrifice. so glad i found a group of buddies that were willing to watch it with me because its star trek lol

also this is one of the few movies where 3D actually enhances the experience and doesnt seem like a tacky add on. that beginning scene with spears flying at the screen actually made me jolt in my seat. trust me, watch it in 3D in imax or ultra avx

Very well done.

Felt kind of jumbled at times, because could not precisely put my finger on when the big "climax finale" would come but turns out the action really never stopped. Was a nice surprise.

Is it just me, or does Nibiru look like it's inhabited with a whole race of Wes Borlands?

Who thought this was basically a recycled version of the first Star Trek ?
like what the Hangover 2 was to the Hangover 1 ??

It was a really fun movie I really liked it, but that's just the Trekkie in me getting his fix talking, we put that aside the movie was almost identical to the first minus the origin of Kirk storyline.... if this movie series is going to turn into a strictly Villain oriented theme like James Bond, I guess they're doing it right.... but the Trekkie in me wants more, I think I speak for most Trekkies when I say we would like more on the side, not a 100% focus on the Villain no matter how good he is portrayed or acted out.....
and no don't bring the "oh but the character development blah blah" crap into the discussion, because by now we all know who is who and how they do.... would like to see more mind blowing Trekkie stuff I used to see growing up watching TNG

like for example when the
Spoiler!
came out, I sat up on the edge of my seat with excitement, I was a little boy again for a few minutes literally......

I now go to my kitchen to make some earl grey, HOT, in ode to Picard, g'day trekkies

I really liked this post on Quora (you need to have an account to read, but it's quick, easy, and free), dissecting the movie - I think the answerer nailed pretty much everything he addressed.

The thing is, a lot of the complaints like G-spec's are fitting if these were to be the only two movies... but if you assume Abrams is trying to create a whole new branch of this storied franchise, with the potential for multiple future movies and possibly even new TV series, then he needs to take the time to first introduce all our relevant players (first movie), then to flesh out their personalities, relationships, and so on (note in the Quora article, the poster's thoughts on the Kirk/Spock relationship, Kirk's quick advancement to the Captain's chair, etc.). Keep in mind that they're trying to appeal to a whole new generation of fans who AREN'T already intimately familiar with the main characters, but may only know them as cultural memes ("Beam me up, Scotty!" and so forth)... plus, the formation of many of these relationships, as well as the two main characters' backgrounds, have been significantly altered from the ones we're familiar with.

You notice at the end of Into Darkness, Kirk gives the little "five year mission" speech as the Enterprise warps out for places unknown, which really sets up that they're embarking into what's no doubt hoped to be a lengthy (and lucrative) movie franchise. Now that both new and old fans alike have a better idea what makes everyone tick, it leaves them free to really open up other storylines, and we won't be left wondering, "Gee, why did Kirk decide to do that instead of this?"

Watched it. Loved it.

Was never a Star Trek fan.

First encounter was the first movie. Maybe that's why I liked it so much more. lol

I never watched the star trek originals with william shatner until I watched these new ones. It's pretty cool how they relate and how its different because of the time travelling and altering space and time.

That movie was junk. I wish they'd just stop.

Spoiler!

The end.

These movies load up on action, all the same action btw, but miss all the cool shit.
I thought we were going somewhere on the social discussion about the ends justifying the means when it came to war..but nope.

All in all...kinda lame.

It's a variation of the original films. Spock dies in The Wrath of Khan and then comes back to life in The Search For Spock. But instead of spreading it out over the next film, they simply shortened it.
