Telus cutting their usage by half in Jan

[BC] TELUS High Speed Turbo 25 Usage being reduced 50% - Telus | DSLReports Forums (Page 2)

Looks like Telus is getting a lot of angry customer or will be getting some angry calls.

Presto 12-07-2012 10:33 AM

Until Telus, actually, starts enforcing caps, I don't think I'll give a fuck.

tool001 12-07-2012 10:42 AM

angry calls to telus dont do shit, angry calls to CRTC might.

just ways to gouge more $ from customers.

noTirl 12-07-2012 10:43 AM

Pretty sure ive been going over the cap since forever as there are 4 heavy users in my house.

SiRV 12-07-2012 10:45 AM

How the hell do people go over the 125 GB Cap?!
My main hard drive doesn't even have that much space (SSD.. but still), what is there to download aside from movies / games? I feel like I'm a bit out of the loop.. are people changing over from torrents to other forms of downloads now too?

falcon 12-07-2012 11:38 AM

With a lot of people having Netflix these days and apple tv, i can see how its very easy to go over.

I use about 200 gigs a month easily. That's by myself, not counting my brother or anyone else in the household. I download music, movies, games, stream netflix, sirius satelite radio, ufc, wwe, sporting events all the time :fullofwin:

DragonChi 12-07-2012 11:50 AM

Netflix, downloading HD TV shows (they are about 1.5 gigs each multiply by 4 assuming airing weekly and it runs an hour, that's 6 gigs for every show you watch), movies, youtube.

On a side note, has anyone else been getting random disconnects to their internet service w/ Telus? I've called in to see whats up and their only solution was giving me dsl filters, which haven't really solved the problem.

twixxer 12-07-2012 12:33 PM

meh, I tried Telus dsl, wasn't comparable to the speeds I get with Shaw.

Same :(

Well if this shit continues, back to Shaw as a new customer :fullofwin:

TekSavvy - Cable

twitchyzero 12-07-2012 01:33 PM

i didnt know turbo 25mbps was 500gb/month
I just know they never enforced caps so I never cared.

willystyle 12-07-2012 01:38 PM

Wont be surprised if Telus will start tracking usage since Shaw has been doing it for awhile now. They are accurate to the dot.

TPMarko 12-07-2012 01:39 PM

i recently had my service throttled or it appears to be. was getting 25mbps for the longest time and had it dropped to 5mbps for about a week until my bill cycle turned and now back up to 25mbps. i was downloading a lot this month. it could just be a coincidence that their network was just shit for a week though.

The average Canadian spends almost 30 hours a week watching content - whether from TV or the internet. When you make this content HD, it's easy to go over 125GB.

Personally, I don't know how people find the time to essentially waste away. As Ben Franklin said, "Time is money."

well i for one download 720p at the minimum for movies, often 1080p for movies that emphasis special effects.
the days of 700mb files are long gone for me.. i mean, you buy a nice tv, get a receiver and speakers, and then watch low resolution video? its the year 2012..
movies are either 4gb or up to 10gb each depending.

FerrariEnzo 12-07-2012 02:12 PM

Shit.. I download xbox360 games, PC games, 720p/1080p movies... I can't stand watching DVD/480p now... And 1080p versions I download are all over 10gb.. its awesome quality...

urrh 12-07-2012 06:23 PM

wasn't there some issue with them tracking usage? like they couldn't differentiate between internet bandwidth and optic tv... thought that was the reason they didn't track useage

Gunsmokez 12-07-2012 10:45 PM

Every Movie or Tv Show must be HD format for me. 4 gig and up!
