wait for 780...680 is overpriced right now
i'd say it's likely you can max crysis 3 1440p with that

so wait for 780 is the best idea ?
and not recommending 580 SLI ? even if its only $300 to achieve 580 SLI ?

which means 780 > 580 SLI ?

the gains from the Sli/Xfire arent as good.. unless you get the cards for a cheap price...

you are probably only getting around 50% (from what I read, someone could chime in) performance out of the second card... So upgrading to a higher card that you can afford is generally better...

I would never SLI. The noise and power is not worth the performance gain, especially once the next generation comes out.

^ i currently run 670sli and I think the gains are worth it...I did not qualitaively measure them since I have yet to play many intensive game on my setup...but I would say it's roughly 80% gain in surround resolutions (it was almost 100% in heaven 3.0 benchmark)

it's still a bit ways away with no specs out yet but I'm predicting 780 to run roughly the same performance as 580 SLI.

Either way 700's will be released not too long after crysis 3 is out...unless you absolutely have to play it maxed out on crysis release.

the way I see it your 580 is still decent enough...even if 780 is a bit disappointing you can get 580 or 680 for a better price then.

Everytime I've done an SLI/Crossfire setup, it's left me feeling underwhelmed. Last time I did it was with a pair of HD 4870s, though. Have just gone the single-card route since then ...

Yea, thats what I m thinking too. 780 should be around the same performance as 580SLI. but the power and heat is much less than 580SLI.

The only down side for 780 is the price so far...

twitchyzero 12-21-2012 06:54 PM

i doubt 780 will cost more than what the 580 and 680 retailed for at launch
like i said even if you dont like the price...there's 8950/8970 or the more affordable 680 or 580 for cheap as your options next spring.
