I went to a few places last year but the Keg stood out and I've been waiting a year to go back there again for dine out. Can't wait!

Not really racist! 01-07-2013 11:57 PM

Nando's on Davie on the list. Is this real life?

winson604 01-08-2013 01:11 PM

Going to take a hard stance with the gf and say no Dineout this year. I much rather go to the restaurant and order off the menu instead. I hate being restricted to only picking from 1 of 3 things plus I can care less for desert. I'll leave paying about the same but will be much happier.

importantLS 01-08-2013 01:30 PM

^ yeah but you can do that any time of the year. At least for dine out you get to sort of try new things xD

miss_crayon 01-08-2013 03:23 PM

^the menus are exactly the same every year and service gets crappier every year cause th restos gets so busy and patience is running thin.
I'm with winson604 on this. Im not gonna do it this year and probably here on out.

When I go out to eat somewhere special (e.g. Hawksworth), I'm prepared to spend at least $100. If I'm spending that kind of money, I'm at least eating full portions and not just some half-assed creation for the masses. The thing with Dineout is that at $38, I'm still going to spend $100 between 2 people after a glass of wine, taxes and tip. On top of that, I won't get to eat what I really want, I'll get substandard service and I'll be in surrounded by people who don't *ahem* dress up for the occasion.

I'm not a foodie, but you always get what you pay for and that includes fixed menus.

And if I want dessert, I'll go to some place that specializes in desserts such as Thierry, or Sweet Revenge.

But there are no new things to try during dineout. It's also busier than usual and I don't like eating at places where the kitchen is constantly pumping out the same few dishes as the food isn't nearly as good imo.

I stopped 2 years ago.
On the upside of Dineout, I get to learn to steal recipes are are fast, cheap and easy to make.

Street Food City – Vancouver 2013 | 604Now

This is probably one of the more exciting parts of Dineout this year for me.

OMG it's sold out?! :(

Is there a way to get tickets from someone that can't make it? For either January 19 (London) or January 23 (Paris)?

impulseX 01-08-2013 09:19 PM

dine out is pretty much just a menu of a mass produce-able item. sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesnt

importantLS 01-08-2013 10:28 PM

I guess it's because i go to 1 or 2 restaurants for dineout a year haven't tried out everything, but I always like giving the benefit of the doubt haha!

westopher 01-08-2013 10:48 PM

Dine-out in so many situations, for people that are interested in trying a new restaurant give such a distorted shitty experience compared to what you would get had you gone on a regular night. Its to get asses in the seats and keep restaurants from suffering through the slowest time of the year. The places are full of people who rarely get out and the restaurants couldn't give a shit if they saw them before next years dine-out, as they know their best customers are staying home to avoid the crowds. Its a likely way to go to an awesome restaurant you've been wanting to try, and leave saying "hmmm, that was not what I expected."

So. Cool.

I'll probably try one or two with some people, most of the time I end up ordering from the regular menu anyways.

If you go make sure to try the beef carpaccio.

Looking at their menu it's a good sample of their usual offerings. But without any mention of their serving size, you might run the risk of leaving quite dissatisfied.

I found that despite dine out craze, West still holds up in quality and service. Bow down to them.

BTW, should I try Minami or Wildebeest?

For Wildebeest, I will be ordering off their regular menu.

I went to West last year but for some reason didn't live up to my expectations
Maybe I hyped it up too much but maybe I should head there on a regular night

Don't think you'll be full from the dineout menu for Miku, I had dinner there for 2 and it cost a bit over $200 and we were just satisfied, not super full or anything.

Going to try Yew though.
