Cracking Clear Coat!!! HELP!
 

Hey guys,

I was just walking around my vehicle when I noticed a few large spots of my clear coat cracking! Would I need to get the whole panel repainted? Or is there a way to just get clear coat re-applied?

Any Recommendations?

Spammer autobody to the rescue! they said they can blend it, as well as fix all the other paint issues i have.

What caused that?

i think its just old, seems like the paint hasn't been touched, detailed or protected ever since the car was bought off the lot.

Is that the TSX? Specifically Alabaster Silver metallic? If so, That exact thing is happening to me. It's honda's crappy paint. There is an extended paint warranty for 8 years... Looks like you just missed it :/

Same thing is happening to my vehicle. Clear is peeling in 3 or 4 different panel's now.

Quick-n-cheap fix I've done:

-Chip off all loose clear coat, I used air compressor and blow gun.
-Clean area with wax and grease remover a few inches past remaining clear as your going to blend the new clear.
-Lightly spray new clearcoat over area, do your best to blend with existing clear. I used clear coat in a spray can, I think Proform brand.

Not perfect, but alot less noticeable than big patches of missing clear.

Damn. I don't know if i could do that to a 4 year old car...

wow, it would have been great to know this. But i believe it happened over the last freeze over which was after the warranty. I'll try to find out anyways hopefully the car was originally purchased in 2005. *cross fingers*.

This is a 4x4 going on 17 years old. I don't care anymore.

You're lucky... My 4 year old si us doing the same thing. Honda just told me they won't do anything. Not sure what the fuck to do now.

go to another dealership, it should still be under warranty, thats bullshit they wont do anything.

I know. But it's worse than that, I got tired with arguing with the dealer, And i went over them to Honda of Canada- Even worse. They brushed me off, and almost word for word told me it's not there problem.

If you want it done properly, the panels are going to have to be completely resprayed with a quality clearcoat.

You don't get what you pay for anymore.

There's actually very little you can do when clear coat fails, except repainting the panel with new clear coat.

Only thing I can think of is applying sealant every 4-6 months(depending on how you car is stored) on the damaged area to prevent further damage/oxidation to the actual layer of paint.

Or seal the whole car so your car's clear coat will be 100% protected from now on, that should prevent even more cracks or other damages happening.

There no point in DIY preventative care. The damage is done...dont make a bigger mess for the bodyshop.
And I dont know which autobody shop with a conscious will blend that. The blended area will appear after a month.
The whole panel needs to be respray with color and clear.

For now, I'm just sealing it once a month. I just can't bring myself to paint a 4 year old car because of paint failure... May just trade the fucking thing in... Between this and the trans problems. Meh idk.

im not going to do a DIY. I'm still waiting for a call back from spammer, hopefully they will get back to me by tomorrow.
