Macbook hard drive about to die My macbook harddrive is almost about to die. What do I use to copy the files on there using my windows computer? |
Hooking the drive up to a Windows box is going to be a hassle. Better to just copy important files over the network while you still can. Put them all on iCloud and install iCloud on your Windows box. Or, get a new drive, and use something like Acronis or Paragon to clone your old drive to the new one. |
If you can still turn it on Carbon Copy Cloner Use it to copy everything into another HD |

Otherwise, if you have a friend with a Mac handy, you can use Target Disk mode to copy the drive over. |
I'd suggest just use carbon copy cloner as other suggested. Ideally speaking though, try to see if you are able to setup a time machine backup. Ever since I started using time machine, I've never looked back. It's fast (over TB), transparent and very efficient. And whenever I need to reinstall, I just use it to restore everything back. |
Download Macdrive and run that on your Windows PC. They have a free trial which will be long enough for you to get the data off. |

Carbon Copy Cloner is by far the best out there, but I don't think it's free anymore. |
Hookup an external drive and backup using time machine. Replace your HDD and re-install OSX then restore your data using time machine. Problem with this is your external hard drive (or just a partition within the drive) requires to be formatted HFS which means if you will need to format. |
