RAM question I recently sent back a stick of defective ram, however they're out of stock for the same stick of ram. This is what I sent back: http://patriotmemory.com/product/det...id=1090&type=1 And they offered to send me this: http://www.patriotmemory.com/product...id=1025&type=1 Will there be compatibility problems? I was running two sticks of the same ram, but now I will have 1 of each running. |
How many gigs of ram are you currently running? Never run 2 different sticks of ram. |
Sorry I made a mistake on the link for the ram. Should be 4gb instead of 8gb. I was running 2x4gb. But one of them crapped out and I sent it back. |
Running two sticks of ram will make the higher frequency one be "detuned". As far as performance wise. I don't think you will see any difference. |
There is a good chance the 2 sticks will work together well. I would ask for the replacement to have a heat spreader on it. |
Just curious, was the memory this part of a dual channel kit? Ideally you would want two sticks of identical memory, even thou you could run these days mixed sticks if compatible and stable. Since they gave you the higher speed memory, it will automatically run at the lowest speed memory. My recommendation would be to contact them, to see if they are willing to exchange the other stick of memory. If these were part of a dual channel kit, I would personally the the other stick exchanged so you have a matching set. |
You should also check the compatibility list for your mobo. |
