Anybody tried Mohu Leaf for OTA TV?

Mohu - Homepage

I like the idea of paying $40 for an indoor antennae and picking up free local HD channels. No idea how effective it is in Vancouver. Installation seems simple (sticking it to side of window for reception).

I just use a regular amplified antenna I got from XS Cargo for like $20 and depending on the location, I can get anywhere from 5-14 channels with it. You must have a a view of the North Shore mountains especially Mount Seymour to get all the local networks in HD. If you live on a south slope like Marine Drive area of Vancouver or New West then you won't be able to receive the signal.

I use something similiar to this

Cell phone signals (incoming calls/sms etc) cuts the signal

I just ordered the Mohu 50, it was on sale almost half off.... I remembered I seen a thread on RS about it came in here to look up info, nobody has one I guess

But I will report back if it actually works well.... right now on Kingsway Edmonds area with window facing south toward Fraser river directly....

so may work, may not I don't know, we'll see, I'll report back

StylinRed 11-12-2014 12:30 AM

that sky60 looks interesting and the reviews are impressive...although they're reviews from flatland areas though

got jipped $40 shipping even though it was delivered next day, so im guessing i got charged $40 shipping and it shipped from the Vancouver warehouse... not surprised but annoyed..

anyway guys it was a waste of $90.... I got 6 fckin channels, and its 6 channels I already have on my Telus box.... I was hoping to get a bunch of US HD signals, and other paid type stuff as well....

I guess going old school is the best way, find a guy who knows a guy that can get you an unlocked box.... all my friends had those unlocked swipe insert card Bell boxes back in the day, got every single channel free

I don't think those boxes exist anymore heard that was clamped down years ago

you might need a more powerful antenna, erected higher up at that... there's a guy nearby my place with about a 100ft tall antenna on his property on top of a hill at that...I wonder how many channels he gets :lol

You clearly didn't do any research whatsoever. Everyone that has tried to do OTA antenna in Vancouver have said that we only get a handful of basic channels.

You expecting to get 'paid type stuff' for free over the air :bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl:

Those 'unlocked boxes' haven't been usable in a good 6 years now.

hacked satellites are back -- I know someone that has one, every single channel unlocked and in 1080P, also gets every single PPV event

pretty sweet, but requires weekly updates to keep working apparently

willystyle 11-17-2014 09:26 AM

LOL!

This is not the US, where residents can easily get 20-30 local and premium channels. In Vancouver, in the most ideal environment, you can only get about 6-8 channels local and US channels (including the ones in Washington State).

So we live in a high rise near lougheed mall, 11th floor but face back towards Surrey/ Portman

Think it's worth a shot or Prob won't work?

You could try!

Keep in mind that most of the local transmit towers are located along the North Shore mountains. Ideally, you want to place your antenna near a window facing NE.

TV Signal Locator

https://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29

Use this tool and plug in your address and see what channels you can possible get.

Even with that, there's probably still nothing on.

willystyle 11-17-2014 03:01 PM

Satellite hacking is just too old school, cumbersome, and has pass its time. You're better off using "illegal" IPTV streaming devices instead, far easier to use and setup and more reliable.

JesseBlue 11-17-2014 04:22 PM

or netflix...

use the tvfool but there are a lot of factors (other buildings beside), weather, etc.

I have one and do get the locals plus a few US...in the summer, i do get the other US channels but meh...i get much of my content in youtube and/or local websites.
