Proteus There's controversy surrounding this game of whether it's actually a game, or a non-game. Overall, the reviews are positive. I thought it looked interesting, so I bought it direct, for $10, which provided a steam key, as well as a DRM-free download. Anyways, the graphics are terrible. It's early 80s-retro, big-block pixels. All you can do is look, and move around. You start off on the coast of a randomly-generated island, and you are free to wander it. Clouds may roll in, darken the sky, and rain will fall. Pixelated frogs will hop away melodiously. You'll see the sky turn red as the sun sets. It's beautiful. The soundtrack is very suited towards this dream-like existence. You'll either hate it, or be enraptured by it. I like this game a lot. I can see a future for these types of games with higher detailed graphics. Check out some screens here; Gallery « Proteus |

OK, this game is cool. I wandered into an area where there was a circle of stones. When I stepped in, the wind blew, and the sun and moon sped across the sky. I was actually trapped in the circle. I could not break free, until I stepped into a circle of swirling particles, and that warped me to another part of the island, where I saw some weird symbols, representing flying creatures, fly off. |
hmm... looks like a really interesting concept. Not sure if I'm convinced it's worth my money yet. But I'm intrigued. |

I played for a bit last night, I enjoyed it. Was walking around and saw those frogs and started to follow one, brought me into a graveyard of some sort (well it looked like one) and then night turned. Little wisps would appear on the screen and blink away. I thought it was pretty cool haha. Nice concept, very "indie" game. |
Reminds me of those mid 80s computer games. |
Seems like the perfect drug addict game. |
So it it just a bunch of 8 bit easter eggs kinda deal, or is there an actual objective? |
