Does anyone go to Douglas College? I currently go to the New Westminster Campus. The computers here are slow as, but theres a gym! (If you want a squat rack you need to go to David Lam, I should complain about that actually) |
i go to douglas, first semester there actually in the new west campus too. so far so good and i'm enjoying my time |

Are hours posted on the door for the business department advisers? |
Pet peeves after a month studying there Why is there only one narrow set of stairs from the 3rd floor concourse to the 4th floor? And why aren't the 5th and 6th floors integrated into the elevator system? I have a class in 6109 and in 6111 and it's extremely inconvenient to get to from 1803/2803. Only one freaking open lab in the whole school and it's in 6212. I've never been in a school where there is a computer shortage during the semester. I couldn't imagine what the situation would be come final exam time! And the aforementioned loading times...I spoke to my CSIS 1175 instructor and he told me that the systems are wiped clean on shut down because of virus issues a few semesters ago. When you log in it's like Windows 7 has been freshly installed. And to top it all off, the library computers don't have Visual Studio installed for CSIS 1175 work. The computer and mobility issues at NWC really let down what is a great school-instructors, location, and the campus in general. Okay, with all that venting, here are some things I like... Of course there's Skytrain. 30 minutes from my house near SFU, which is a 20 minute savings compared to Langara. Easy access to local attractions (Quay, Queensborough Landing, Starlight Casino, Metrotown, Surrey, 410 bus to Richmond at 22nd St, etc) Great instructors overall, they are all intelligent, caring, and helpful. I have Snyder for MATH 1130 and he patiently helped me at the start of this semester...with his help I got an 87% on our first term test. I would love to catch him for Calculus II in the fall. Really, the quality of the instructors is what matters most to me. No use having a shiny campus if your teachers can't teach. The gym is good, but no squat rack as I have mentioned. DLC does have one. Also there are lots of clubs and groups...today was clubs day. And the international student population/clubs diverse, it's not segregated into white/Chinese/Korean/religious white/religious Asian like at SFU. I signed up for the Salsa Club, bitches love salsa...I'm also on the DCBA, I saw Giustra talk. |
I'm there for my second semester, I am only at the David Lam location for this semester. I'm taking the two year crim program. One thing I can't stand about newwest is where you park if you have the parking pass. That uphill after leg day is brutal. |
Oh yes, I should have mentioned my program. I'm in CSIS, hoping to transfer into SFU Computing Science by Jan 2014 at the latest. I'm aiming for co-op so I need to get good marks (B's and A's). If you want to meet up, PM me. I need new friends anyway... |
i don't stay on campus long enough luls, but i'm up there on thursdays taking psyc courses |
What is everyone taking this semester? I am taking: CSIS 1175 BUSN 2429 MATH 1130 Summer I'm probably going take courses at Langara, then in the fall I'll take MATH 1230, CMPT 1110 and a first year science (maybe CHEM 1108). |
