where could i buy LGA 775 type motherboards locally?

Sorry, do not knw if this is the right section to post.

I have been searching everywhere to purchase an LGA 775 motherboard that is compatible for core 2 quad processors. I've been to memory express, ncix. Everyone of those places are on back-order. Does anyone else know of any computer stores that sell the older motherboards? I do not WANT best buy, futureshop crap. I am on a budget and my computer is just a brick. Thank you!!!

Unfortunately with Intel.. that is a dead socket. Try Craigslist, or check out Newegg.ca - Computer Hardware, Motherboards, Intel Motherboards, LGA 775

The LGA 775 is a completely obsolete socket. Spend your money more wisely on a new budget AMD setup. Even the Phenom II x4 965 BE is a good option.

Nothing AMD currently offers under $200 can really match the 3rd gen i5 procs in terms of raw processing power, but they'll sure as hell be a lot quicker and efficient than anything from the Core 2 era.

If your budget allows, this would be a good new option from AMD that is actually on par with some of Intel's newer offerings.

I would recommend staying away from anything Bulldozer as the Phenom II x4 965 BE with an OC is capable of higher performance, for a fraction of the price.

i am trying to configure for something under 500 if possible...I was looking at the barebones kits on tiger direct. My core 2 quad was almost fast as my i7 laptop and could handle almost all programs and games, I just need something similar or a little faster. Does not have to be high end parts.

I believe FX 8350 is on par with the 3rd gen i5's. Even the 8320 is quite good for it's price.

Yup, AMD's new Vishera chips are quite impressive. If I wasn't on an even tighter budget than $500, I would've gone for an 8320 or 8350 in my new build. Phenom 965 BE @ 4.0GHz will do for now.

Yup, the 8350 actually beats the i5 in most scenarios, especially heavily threaded. i5 can pump more consistent frame times in games though (slightly) and uses way less power.

I have a quad core CPU, mother board, 6 gigs of ram, video card and a powr supply in a case missing side panels I can sell you for cheap. Also have a sync Ninja cooler o go with it.

I pm'd the op with an x48 board... Used to be a high end $250 motherboard, and one of the few SLI capable. But I don't know how serious he is about this
