Bringing motorcycle over from Seattle to Vancouver, Insurance?

My friend's got a question about insurance while transfering a US bike to Canada.

Hes already purchased the motorcycle in Seattle and is sitting in the buyers garage. He wants to bus down there and ride it back to vancouver.

Hes wondering, during that day or two in Seattle, where and how is the best way to acquire insurance for the bike?

Thanks

If the rules for vehicles apply to motorcycles as well you will need a trip binder as well as a temporary permit from Washington State DMV. If it has valid tags, you will just need the trip binder.

what is the trip binder include and by valid tags, do you mean approval by Canadian Border?

You need to:

1. Buy a temporary permit from the State of Washington's DMV. You are only allowed to ride it on freeways/highways (public roads.) This will insure only the bike, not you or any third parties so just a heads up. It is valid up to the US/Canada border only.

2. Buy a temporary binder's insurance from ICBC. Again, this allows you to ride from point A to B only; B being the final destination of the bike. See Doug Chan @ Reliance Insurance on the 3rd floor @ Renfrew & E. 1st Ave. He knows the insurance process and is very thorough. If not him, one of his colleagues will help. They have over 25+ years of experience. They took care of my M3 and SR500 from the US.

Has he done the research on importing a bike ?

And yes he will need two temp permits.
