Depends on what you're wanting out of your phone as well.

Personally, based on physical size of each, the iPhone would be the choice as it also probably the most "user friendly" to get the hang of right away.

That being said, here's some spec sheets of each to let you see how each stacks up when it comes to their hardware:
iPhone 5
Apple iPhone 5 - Full phone specifications
Samsung GS3
Samsung I9300 Galaxy S III - Full phone specifications
Samsung Note 2
Samsung Galaxy Note II N7100 - Full phone specifications

Anywho, Note is too big for most people so don't get that unless you want a giant phone. iPhone 5 and S3 are great phones. I would pick the one you like more based on operating system (do you like Android or do you like iOS). Just remember there is the S4 on the horizion.

If 3 years is a concern Fido has a Nexus 4 on a 2 year.

ive always had iphone and loved them, recently switched to the samsung s3, with a few good apps it makes the phone much much better, it isnt as smooth, but overall i love the phone and would take another samsung over iphone if i had too again

Just get whichever you like better. Forget about getting the best value for you money because really, all phones are not worth what they cost. Whatever you get will be outdated in a year anyways.

Personally I'd say get the iphone 5 since androids tend to get laggy after 1-2 years (in my experience). Since you want to use it for the next 3 years this would be what I base my decision on.

If you care about getting the latest and greatest software and getting the most up-to-date version of Android, then Samsungs are not going to make you happy. A friend of mine with an S3 is still waiting on the 4.1 update.

But keep in mind that you don't necessarily need the newest version of Android to have a phone that rocks.

For me, between those three the difference more than anything else is the size. iPhone is too small, Note is too big, and the S3 is fairly decent. I think it's a wee smidge big for me, and I don't have small hands. I've got the Nexus 4, and has a Galaxy Nexus before that, and they fit beautifully.

For those of you that say the note is too big, have you actually held the note 2 or just assume since it's a larger phone it's automatically too big?

Agreed with what graeme says. Touchwiz is pretty decent and has some useful features and I'm still on 4.1.2. Im typically an aosp rom user, but I dont miss it at all to be honest since the phone can do everything I need it to.

Yeah, I played around with a note for about half a day. Each time phones have grown bigger I've been leery but happy in the end. With the note it's just too much. 4.6-4.8" is ideal for me I think. At least, in terms of screen size.

Gnomes 02-26-2013 05:34 PM

The battery life of note 2 is far superior than s3. Must be the battery size despite larger screen.

3 year is a long time. Most phone become crappy after 2 years.

yogenfruz 02-26-2013 06:03 PM

^ I wouldn't say a phone becomes crappy, the technology just jumps ahead too quickly these days. I think soon we're going to see less spectacular jumps in design and hardware, and it will be about who can optimize their OS and battery the best.

With size though, I think they're just getting out of hand. My HTC is a 4.3" and its honestly as big as I'd want to go with a screen, maybe 4.7" depending on how big the border/body is. But something like the Note, it's just way too big for me; I feel like I'm trying to fit a tablet into my pocket.

^ when the market only offers 4.7 to 5.0 screen then people will get use to it

As for which phone to get out of the 3. I would choose iPhone 5 if I were you or wait a bit if you don't need it like right now.

Samsung got an event coming up on March 14th and it is rumored for the Galaxy S4.

StylinRed 02-26-2013 07:46 PM

wait and see if you can get the HTC One instead?

I've said it before the battery life on the note 2 is worth the size. Not to mention earpiece and speakerphone volume are louder than any other phone I've used.
It's not hard fitting it into a pocket unless you wear skinny jeans. In that case..
