Should you be stopped, ticketed and dragged into court for adjusting the temperature of the heater? For changing a station on the car's factory radio?

are you for reals? you are taking it to quite an extreme here. all you need is some common sense.

you know what the cops are after. yet you are playing russian roulette.

just ask yourself this question "will i get in trouble for this?" i am sure your gut instinct is right.

Remember when nobody had cell phones and we all drove around all day with nothing but the radio and somehow managed to get where we were going?

You know, I've always been in favor of cops being in plain sight rather than hiding behind bus stops, for one reason only: if the cop is plainly visible, and you still do something stupid (and by stupid I mean, something that you fully KNOW is illegal), then you really, really, REALLY deserve that ticket, and zero sympathy.

My buddy was a few minutes ahead of me coming down the Coquihalla today... he called at one point (hands-free of course) to let me know a cop was sitting on the median at the north end of Larson Hill. Cop was still there when I passed about 10 minutes later. When I talked to him later, my buddy told me how he'd been doing about 150 passing a line of slower cars when he crested the hill, saw the cop, and slowed down and moved over. He was sure he'd get nailed, but nope...

We both agreed, the cop was probably more interested in catching idiots who would still blow past him despite being in full view from the instant you come over the hill, and what saved my buddy was very likely the fact that he slowed down, indicating that HE WAS ACTUALLY FUCKING PAYING ATTENTION TO THE ROAD.

It's the touchscreens I swear. With a flip phone and T9 I could text without even looking at the screen, just like how you can operate the radio and heater without looking at it. Now every phone is touch only and even cars are going to touch controls for everything. Ford is using touchscreens for their HVAC now of all things.

I hate how so many new cars use touchscreens. I mean, do I really want to go through a few menus to turn up the heat? Also, if it breaks, you probably can only go back to the dealer to get it replaced and it'll be so expensive.

the price you pay for fancy.

I did not get a ticket and have read this thread but some members made it confusing.

Question:

I have two cell phones. They are either in my purse in the back seat or in the center console so neither are easily accessible.

I have both programmed for bluetooth in my vehicle but only one can operate at a time.

99.9% of the time my primary phone is connected. However if the battery dies, I can use the touch screen to change the phone to my secondary phone.

If I am stopped at a red light and am touching the nav/media screen, is this ticketable?

in relation to the topic, are smart watches considered "hand-held" electronic devices? they fit the criteria for everything except "hand-held". loophole?

obviously its unsafe to use but just wondering the technicality.

I may be wrong, but I believe the distinction is that the device takes more than 1 button press to perform an action.
