Being Forked by Telus Optik So my Telus Optik TV and internet bundle contract came up after 1 year and I asked retention to see if they had any special offers since Shaw was sending spam offers to our mailbox for $49/mo in a bundle of internet, tv and phone. Telus responded by saying that they can't do $49 but they can do $65 for 6 months. I assumed that they would put me on another deal for a year and all was fine. We paid about $85 previously for the one year that includes the full bundle. I've complained that I've been purchasing the full price of their service but can only watch 1 HD channel at a time in the WHOLE house, which is annoying beyond words. That was how I had a reduced price. Now, after 6 months I've called in yesterday since their internet was down after trying to reboot Telus' router modem constantly. Long story short I called directly into retention and I've also asked them about my current subscription fee and apparently they've subscribed me to the Telus Optik TV to a 3 year plan ending in 2015 without my realization. The previous person had not said one word about a 3 year commitment reaching to 2015 AT ALL. Now she said she I can't do anything about it and cancelling would be $200 + another $300 for the savings I had in the past 6 months. She can't put me in a bundle anymore and the internet will be $50/15M and home phone will be the minimum of $25. Is this something I can complain to the BBB or what? I was explicitly scammed and ripped off. The fact is, as a normal person I did not record the previous conversation that she put me on that contract so what can I do? In the meantime Novus isn't available our area. Forget Shaw. |
I am always surprised to hear, what with the deep pockets Telus has, how they can offer such a pile of shit product and look themselves in the mirror everyday. |
Did they send you a bill that states that you agreed to a 3 year renewal commitment? Or any other kind of paper work? |
This is a major complaint by a lot of people, and it happens more often that you know. I would fight it tooth and nail, ask them to retrieve the recording of your conversation and review it to where u said it was okay for them to place you on a 3 year agreement, honestly that's so much bullshit. I have also heard of people's contracts being extended without any knowledge what so ever, like not even by calling in and inquiring about it, just automatically. I have a theory about this since everything is manual, but I don't want to go too far into it... There are no real retention agents at Telus, they all still get a comission for sales and contract extensions, and theres like an 80 dollar difference for a 1yr commitement to a 3 yr. commitment. |
Every time I talk to Telus about reducing my bill. I make sure I clarify that the pricing is good for the period they offered, and there's no contract. This thread reminds me that I have to call them and get my Optik internet discounted, again. For the last year my internet has been 23 bucks. Now, they jacked it back up to 56 :P |
Time to switch to Teksavvy. |
my mom went through somewhat the same ordeal but for a phone package of some sort. a representative talked to her and would give this and that but signed her up for something else which was not agreed upon. mom took notes, dates and all the calls she made. nothing was being done and she wrote letters to the higher up, which to my amazement, reverted all the shit that was done and gave her what was agreed on in the first place. this took place over several months to figure out. |
The problem was, why would I only sign up for Optik TV for 3 years and not the internet or the landline in a bundle.... clueless people |
the TV is where they make the most money out of you. |
I had an issue like this before. Tell the CSR you never agreed to any contract, and for them to provide you the proof that you did. I believe they require a signature from you to have put you on the 3 year contract in the first place. |
