Any wheel guru in the house?

Any wheel guru here can give me a quick tip on how to calculate the offset needed for certain car/stance?

Just browsing through rims/stance and saw one i like, but i only have the wheel size/tire size available. The guy on the car forum wants to keep the offset to himself, so............ whats the proper way of calculating the offset if i have the wheel size/tire size of knowledge.

good learning process on my end too :/

more negative offset, your wheels come out of fender more. You will have to have your fenders rolled so that your wheels wont rub against the fender.

There is not a specific offset that everyone runs, you can run any offset to your own liking and also different sizing of tyres. What do you drive?

Grim 03-08-2013 07:28 PM

i understand the basics...
but what im looking for is to have the deepest dish without pulling the fender. Maybe just a roll.

at first i thought 19x9F/19x10R was the magic number.
then i came across that 19x10F/19x11R fits just enough with the right offset.

so what i wanna know is, whats the proper way to calculate what offset is needed for the stance im looking for.

Around 30 I would guess.

Find a guy who does a lot of wheels and who's done your fitment before. Honestly, eyeballing really wouldn't help especially since we don't know what kind of roll or pull was done. Looks also like the tire has been stretched, which means you'd need to be careful with the tire size to boot.

jtrinh 03-08-2013 07:48 PM

If you can find what the inside/outer fender limits are in a 2IS, I'm sure you can use this equation as well. Keep in mind, you will buy yourself a few extra millimeters from rolling fenders and the camber from lowering your car.

From the 1IS section of the forums.

well the tire size in that set up was tire sizes are 235/35 & 265/30 Hankook V12.
im planning to take off my wheel this weekend and do some measuring in the wheel well and see if my theory on how to calculate is correct.

yea, lots of people asked the owner what offset it was, but he's keeping that a secret.
so my goal is to figure out how calculate this math problem.

jtrinh 03-08-2013 08:13 PM

PSSTTT. No secret.

When I had my ralliart I was the first to take it to another level on the forums. All I did was take my current specs of whatever I had on the car, then measure out(with a tape measure) how much further I could push further outwards. Take the additional width and add about 1 inch for camber(in/negative) adjustment and you'll have a ballpark range of what you have to play with.

I was pretty close lol

Those rims cost a pretty penny! They would look awesome on your white IS.

What a sandy fuckin' cunt.

Whatever happened to fellow car guys helpin' each other out?

Glad you were able to find out the offset. You should go back to that forum you were on, and post the offset numbers in the biggest, boldest font for all to see.

kakucaekz 03-08-2013 10:06 PM

Those SP3s would look sick on your IS, holy cow. SSR makes some awesome wheels, those SP3s, MS3s, and the ones I want, SP1s.

No joke. This fucking guy think he's the wheel guru "pushing boundaries" where no one else may go? A good rule of thumb though, is that if its the craziest you've seen on the forums, when you set it up in person you are going to say "this is the worst fucking idea ever." Vancouver is pretty low car friendly, but its not cali, and we just can't run the same stances as those guys do and enjoy our driving. Give your self like 5 to 8mm more room than you think you will need. There is always spacers, and that extra few mm isn't going to make a difference in the way that your car looks in person and its nice to be able to play around. For the record, that photo you posted looks like the guy is going to mash fender in the rear if he doesn't camber it in a bit. Sick choice of wheels though. I dream of spectrum silver ssr's but in sp1 format.

so i did a drawing of the wheel.
(spoke is probably diffm but w.e)
time to measure if it fits.. might go 10.5 for safety measures

1010TIRES.COM - Wheel Offset Calculator

This is a great tool. Put in your stock wheel width and offset and the proposed one and it will show you exactly how much more clearance you will need on each side.

The rear wheel in that photo of the red IS isn't even close to clearing if you actually still want to be able to drive, but the issue is on the outside of the hub, not the inside. Both the 11 and the 10.5 you posted are equally close to the outside, one just has more room inside. You might need to look at a higher offset wheel to move the whole wheel inboard...

Good advice. The best way to work a really good wheel fitment is really limit the amount of wasted space on the inside near the strut. Also an important factor is for example, even though a 18x9 et32 and an 18x10 et45 sit exactly the same at the fenders, the 10s, if they have inner clearance will give you so much more fender clearance because the way bigger stretch with the same tire size will match the curvature of your fender where on the 9 the sidewalls will be much more square.
