Bought a used Shaw PVR and now get all channels

So I bought a used shaw dcx3400 pvr off craigslist a few months ago and the cable package that I already have on my other tv is limited to certain channels but on my pvr that I bought used receives all channels except for the pay per views (I still have to purchase those).

When I bought the used one I brought it home and plugged it in and started watching tv, but I didn't call shaw to activate it to my account because it was working fine, but then a couple days later I noticed I'm getting more channels than I'm paying for so I've left it the way it is.

But today the daylight saving time change my pvr didn't change the time on the guide, so it's stuck one hour behind now. I'm debating if should call shaw to fix or leave it alone.

deal with it then?

Easy…
Your used PVR still under your Seller's Shaw account.

most likely the unit is still active on the previous account it was attached to

if you call in, they'll notice the error and fix it. if the previous owner calls in to have it removed from their account.. you'll lose all the channels until you properly have it on your account

you can try to power cycle the unit to see if that'll update the time

The seller deactivated it in front of me over the phone

hhmm.. either they deactivated the wrong unit and there's some kind of glitch

regardless, do not call in as they'll spot the error and fix it

I don't really wanna call in but the guide is starting to confuse me at times. I gotta think bout this long and hard

you can try to power cycle it, you'll lose the guide for about 45 minutes and it'll fill in again to see if that works.. but if it is a glitch.. i can't guarantee if the other channels will still be there

haha, do you guys remember the time in the tv comedy "Friends"where Joey and Chandlier got free porn and were too afraid to turn off the tv in fear of losing said porn. lol

Friends - Joey and Chandler with the free porn!

I'd try powercycling it a few times, or see if there's a menu where you can force the time.

Free channels who cares?

If you power cycle it too many times, it may update the docsis file and then you're back to nothing.

Live with it until it automatically fixes itself

I'm not sure why this would be a hard choice..

Is it really that difficult to subtract an hour?

Ride 03-19-2013 10:34 AM

I'm leaving it the way it is. I just thought if was gonna record something it wouldn't record at the right time but its working fine.
