| school me on powerline adapters
im looking to increase the stability of my home network.
there's a htpc that is on wireless and the connection is quite shitty, not sure why.
its using a wireless N connection to my asus router n66. and the wirelesss adapter is also an asus, i think something like n11, dont really remember the model.
so been thinking of getting powerline adapters. not sure which brand is reliable. and is there a big difference between 200mbps or 500mbps.
was looking at this
thanks!

Get 500mbps. I had 200, and its too slow. Powerline speed can degrade depending on a number of factors, so you might as well get the 500 to make up for any extra loss of bandwidth. Also, on sale, you can get 500s for ~$70 or less from NCIX.

i got the TRENDnet TPL-401E2K 500MBS Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit on sale for $79... works good... not complaints..
connection also depends on how old the power lines in the house is also... the best thing, you can move the second adapter to any part of the house freely (non-wireless verion) ... or you can keep adding 1 more.. if you can find the 500mbps for cheap, go with it.. this way you wont have to upgrade again later down the road.

depends on how the electrical wiring was put in. I know most older homes won't work with this. What you can do is buy it from futureshop or bb to test then return and get it from somewhere cheaper if it works.

I have the TrendNet 500 powerline kit at my home. Yes, your wiring matters. The house I'm in was built in the 20's but the wiring is all new so I get stutter-free streaming now. Make sure to not plug anything else into the outlet, not even a power-bar. Check to see if the outlets you are using are not hooked up into AFCI breakers (check your breaker box). This shouldn't matter since they are only mandated for bedrooms, but if you use a bedroom as a den and want to stream videos from your computer to your media room, then this might not work.

Just FYI 500mbps doesn't actually hit 500mbps. That being said get the fastest available which is 500mbps.
