hot/dead/stuck pixel in 5d mk2 I recently shot some long exposure shots last night and only noticed that my camera might have some dead pixels or stuck pixels. I have a 5d mk2, have owned it since 2009. no idea how many actuations have been done what i think are the dead pixels, are coloured red green blue and white, and they appear in the same position through out numerous shots. from what i can see, the only occur in long exposure photos that are predominantly dark. is this something easy to fix or should i send the cam to canon canada? any help would be greatly appreciated! |
These are automatically eliminated if youre using Lightroom and shooting RAW. You may have to reinstall your current firmware to erase the dead pixels completely. |
How long were your exposures? You will get them with long exposures, it's a fact of life with digital cameras. |
I'll try to reinstall my firmware later today to try to remap the sensor and pixels. -Senna: the exposures were relatively short, 30secs f9 iso400, but when i tried it last night with my lens cap on, 30sec, f4, iso100 they are still there. i only had these dead pixels from the other night though, i've done 5 minute or more exposures before but they never showed up before. **my long exposure noise reduction is turned off tho (for faster write times) |

Also, was the software that you used to open the RAW files the exact same? Are the settings within the software the same? Ambient temperature? Did you take a lot of consecutive long exposures that may have heated your sensor? There are so many variables... What you have are hot pixels, not dead pixels, btw. |
No big deal to fix in post. Posted via RS Mobile |
even the first of the bunch, the hot pixels were showing up. in canon's DPP when i just "view" the cr2 file it shows up, but when i import to ACR, they are barely visible unless i start pixel peeping. same colour temp for all of the photos though |
