how to get out of gym membership

hey guys, im looking to get out of my membership, little back story

2 years ago i had a small fall snowboarding, ended up dislocating and separating my shoulder, there was enough damage for me to be out of work for close to 4 months then 6 months light duty. couldnt even out a t-shirt on myself for almost 3 of those months

recently i decided to start working out again and ive been having some pretty serious pain in my shoulder, it gives out even with light weight, and because of this i get to use the gym about 1 time a month maybe.. and dont have much interest in going anymore.

ive been told by some to get a doctors note, but others say im stuck paying this membership even if i physically cant use it

any of you guys get out of gym memberships?

ps this is a steve nash membership

Steve Nash Fitness World & Sports Club :: Contact Us

Call or email and ask them. Might just be as simple as a doctor's note.

Or tell them if they don't let you cancel, you'll kick Steve's ass.

ah, im aware that i can just call them, but my friend tried to get out of golds, did everything they said and still charged him for the remainder of the year :okay:

pretty sure they will mislead me the same way

Never know until you try.

Get everything in writing, if they say you can do it, MAKE SURE they say IN WRITING that you won't have to pay for the rest of the year... then if they do, you can try for a chargeback (if you paid with CC), or go to the media, something like Steele On Your Side. At that point it's not whether or not you should be allowed to cancel, it's whether or not they live up to their agreement.

i think you can transfer your membership over to another person

chin3se604 03-21-2013 09:16 AM

if you have a doctors note, you can pause your membership

are you currently on a contract ? or paying month to month ?

month to month, there were things i signed but i guess its just easier to call them

chin3se604 03-21-2013 09:30 AM

email cancellations@stevenashfitnessworld.com

provide them with your member ID and let them know you want to cancel

cancellation will take effect 30 days, which means you'll have to pay for the next month

if you do this today, call 604-288-4540 tomorrow and ask them to check your account to see when your last day at the gym will be

Hi,

I'm emailing you to inform you that I no longer wish to keep my gym membership at Fitness World. I'm past the probationary period and can cancel without any cancellation fees, and I would like to exercise that option. I have found a gym much closer to my home that is open 24 hours, which meets my needs better.

My account number is **-******, and I do not currently have a gym membership card. The last time I visited Fitness World was sometime in August. My mailing address is **** **** ********, Vancouver B.C.

Thank you,

-dhillon09

DO NOT talk to the branch accounts manager because they are pushy fucks who will use lines like "I can't offer you this deal tomorrow..." to force you into things and will not under any circumstance allow you to cancel because their pay is commission based, and I'm sure head office at fitness world tracks how many cancellations each rep makes.

Go straight to the head account manager and get it dealt with. Alternatively, setup a prepaid credit card, transfer your payments onto there and just cancel it lol (May or may not work).

^ wish the person i got on the phone tried to throw deals at me left and right, the reason why i cancelled my membership is because they were giving me BS rates. after being a member for 2 years

" 6 month free promotion ends this month "

:fuckthatshit: you always have that promotion

k, so i put in the request to cancel, and i received an email back stating that my health reason ARE NOT enough reason to cancel, what was the probation period to cancel?

better call saul

I don't know if you still have the contract or not, I'd check that to see if there are indeed any loopholes (like health condition has deteriorated to the point where physical activity is deemed unfit)

Other then that, you can always transfer membership to a friend.

vafanculo 03-26-2013 12:34 PM

Once I bought a refundable one way bus ticket to Ontario, and told them I'm moving there. They canceled my contact right away.

Then I refunded the bus ticket, and it only cost me a 10% cancellation fee (bus company).

How much are you paying a month?

The old fitnessworld/steve nash membership was $40/month for all stevenash fitness world for first 2 years, thereafter the probationary period would end and your membership would decrease to $20/month + tax.

Upon lowering of monthly rate, you are free to cancel anytime as the probationary period has past.

For reference, I signed up in sep. 2009, cancelled in late 2011/early 2012.

edit:

Depending on your credit card/bank account, you can set up a payment block.
It can be free or cost ~$15/month.

Or contact them and ask how much your early cancellation fee is. It'll probably be the remainder of your probationary period IIRC
