Can plastic trim be painted?

I would like the paint the plastic trim on the bumpers....I asked a bodyshop and they said it cannot be painted....so is it true? or should I take vinyl wrapping route instead?

any good vinyl wrap place to go?

Thanks

you can get it painted, but it probably won't turn out the way you're picturing in your head.

For vinyl wrap, Go to MM design :troll:

^but they do do a good wraping job albeit poor design

are you trying to do the whole bumper or just certain pieces?

yeah I would plastidip too~ blacking out all the chrome pieces is epic!

There are some products by the major spray paint companies that are specifically meant for painting interior plastics,
I wouldn't recommend plastidip because it doesn't like being touched up and it comes off too easily, that being said plastidip is also pretty damn easy to apply and requires little prep work.
Say you paint a door trim piece and chip off a square centimeter of plastidip, if you just spray over it you will notice the spot where it's not as thick, so if you want to touch it up you will need to peel it and redo it at least in my experience.

I had the black trim on my 91 Accord painted, and it turned out real nice. I sanded the trim really well, and my dad painted it

ive painted my bumper trim, its turned out good, there are paints made for plastic, i assume they have a primer in them and are more flexible, mine turned out great!

scuff and paint

melloman 03-27-2013 08:29 AM

Yes it can.

Just do proper prep and it'll turn out fine.

Spoiler!

I painted almost all the interior trim of my last car with a simple metallic silver rattle can. Turned out awesome.
