Samsung Galaxy Mega handsets with 5.8" and 6.3" screens coming - GSMArena.com news

http://cdn.gsmarena.com/vv/newsimg/1...marena_001.jpg

Quote:

The information comes from an inside source, who confirmed that two Galaxy Mega smartphones are in the works. The first is codenamed Galaxy Mega 5.8 with a model number GT-I9152. Obviously, we are talking about a handset with 5.8-inch display and the model number pointing to its dual-SIM nature.

More interestingly, the second one is carrying the codename Galaxy Mega 6.3, which hints at a 6.3-inch display - the same as the Galaxy Note III is rumored to pack. However, the model number GT-I9200 doesn't correspond with Samsung Galaxy Note naming convention Nxxxx (Galaxy Note II N7100, Galaxy Note N7000), so it will most likely lack S Pen functionality.

Everything should be revealed once those two phones get out of Samsung's factories. The Galaxy Mega 5.8 should do so around the end of May, start of June (week 22, as per SamMobile), while the Galaxy Mega 6.3 around mid-June (week 25).

nice render. i'd buy it

EDIT: I'd love to have front facing stereo sound like my BB Playbook did.

I hope Note III remains 5.5".

iKayChow 04-02-2013 08:37 AM

boss phone. i should trade in my note 1 for that

snails 04-02-2013 09:56 AM

I am not sure is making phones with bigger screen the way push technology forward. For my personal as long as the phone is big enough is good (Nexus 4 is pretty much the biggest phone I would use) ALL THE OTHER functions they added in now is nice but not very practical.
I would love them develope a phone that have longer battery life either by making the phone more power efficent or somehow make the battery the same size but packs more power. I will be great if we can have phones that can stand by for 3days and actual use of 16 to 18hours.

note 2 for me all sudden feels like the new norm in phone size, after moving from an s3 and iphone 4 before that

it doesnt feel so big as it did when i first held it my hand and 5.5 inch is still pocketable in jeans with cover case on

i dont know about 6' or more.... unless your a girl that carries a purse around

BBMme 04-02-2013 01:24 PM

okay, this is getting crazy, when will it stop? 8inch?. 5.5 was big but it was do able.

mb_ 04-02-2013 01:32 PM

5.5" is already pushing it for me but still very usable and portable

I agree, it is great to see Samsung is making phones with larger screen, I am expecting to the point I do not need to zoom in and out in desktop view, but their phones edge need to be slimmed down further.

The current note2 is too large, imo, I cant even tie my shoelaces with it in the pocket.

BaoTurbo 04-03-2013 12:34 AM

Honestly after moving from my iphone 4 to S3, the 4.8' is a much better size than I would have thought.

no phone will be near bezel-less. this would cause a multitude of problems with accidental touches being registered when just holding the phone.

touch based phones need dead space.

also your pants are too tight. your balls need to breathe

Its officially announced. The Mega is coming...but likely not to North America.

The rumours at first seemed incongruous with Samsung’s apparently two-pronged approach, the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note, but today the company has taken the wraps off a new series, Galaxy Mega.

The Galaxy Mega 5.8 and 6.3 will each iterate on the company’s largest smartphone offerings, broaching the true line between smartphone and tablet. It’s also apparent, especially in the 5.8-inch version, that these will be low- to mid-range devices, focusing on users who don’t want to invest in two devices.

The Galaxy Mega 5.8 (seen above in white) comes with a 5.8-inch qHD display (960×540), making for a sparse 189.9ppi pixel density, a 1.4Ghz dual-core processor, 1.5GB RAM, a 2600mAh battery, an 8MP back camera and 1.9MP front camera. It will max out at 21Mbps HSPA+, too.

Its 6.3-inch (seen above in black) counterpart is equipped with a 720p display, making for a Nexus 7-like 233ppi pixel density, a 1.7Ghz dual-core processor, 1.5GB RAM, a 3200mAh battery, and the same 8/1.9MP camera combo. Unlike the 5.8-inch version, the larger Mega comes with LTE support. Both devices will have a removable battery and microSD slot for expandable storage.

Psykopathik 07-09-2013 12:43 PM

disregard the 4.8" typo

think of it as The Note 2's larger retarded brother thats kinda slow.

!MiKrofT 07-09-2013 01:17 PM

I'll wait for Note 3. It'll be the ideal phone with highres screen/fast processor / lots of ram / not as massive.

TjAlmeida 07-09-2013 01:36 PM

I will have to hold it to deem if it is to large or not in my hand and in my pants..

People's hands are only so big. It's like a perfect set of boobs... a full handful is great but anything more is simply a waste.

:fullofwin:

Seriously, though... my S3 with an Otterbox case is about as much as my hands can handle. I'm not a big fan of needing to use both hands in order to do something as simple as changing songs to the next track or to even unlock it.
