HID for FR-S Does anyone know how much HID's are for this car? Where to get them? And also if I have the kit no bulbs how much? Thank for helping |
You should really consider doing a projector retro fit. There is an all-in-one morimoto projector kit that will give you a clean cutoff and get rid of glare. I think i remember the new projector system being worth around $250-300. If you want something that is plug and play, you can look into phillips if you're looking for a good quality kit. I've been through a bunch of cheapo kits and i've had the most luck with Volts kits. Try kbcarstuff.com. They are usually on sale for around $100 and come with a 2 year warranty i believe. nice car too btw. |
Whatever you do, don't just jam an HID bulb in the stock FRS headlight housing. The light scatters everywhere, and if the kit you choose is bright enough, you will blind everyone on the road and get hi-beamed constantly. It'll look like shart too. http://g35driver.com/forums/attachme..._in_haloge.jpg Do a proper projector retrofit, a friend of mine did so on his car for less than a couple hundred bucks, iirc. The lighting output is way better than a normal halogen housing, and it'll be proper, with a cut off and everything. Hit up theretrofitsource.com, I've been told the support guys there are super helpful, and will help you set up a proper HID system in your FRS. Just be careful when retrofitting, I'm sure OEM FRS headlights cost a pretty penny, so don't crack or break anything when disassembling the lights. |
The FR-S comes with projector housings. There is no glare, and there is already a good cut-off. |
LOL |
not all came with them. the first batch that came out only came with regular reflector housings like the tester press car i got. Quote:

Get the TRS kit that jbsali mention is you want real HID cut off. I find that HIDs in the stock projectors still have some haloing but a lot less. If you put ft86club into the discount code area when buying the kit you will save $75 bucks. if not and you just want to jam some HIDs into your stock projectors please bend down the squirrel finder so they don't reflect the light upwards. I got the TRS H1 kit if you are interested in checking them out |
If it has projectors already, It looks pretty good with the plug and play HID kits. There have been some attempts for TSX projector retrofit as well http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...531_102115.jpg |

not sure how to make this clear but: halogen projectors and HID projectors ARE NOT equivalent. halogen projectors allow for a certain amount of light to escape the main cutoff beam to light up street signs. these are called squirrel finders and is the reason why even if you have projectors, HIDs will STILL blind people. if you compare a BRZ's hids with FRS + hids, even if they're the same color/ballast/heck even same manufacturer of bulb, you'll notice the glare on the FRS. TRS sells a plug and play complete retrofit kit with projectors/bulbs/ballasts for the FRS. no messing around with attempting to make a retrofit, it just slaps on. |

I have seen a FRS with just HIDs in it using stock projectors and while its not terrible you get glare when your are right behind someone |
