S14 KA24DE oil level

Hi Revscene,

Recently did an oil / filter change on my S14 KA24DE. As per FSM I put in exactly 4 quarts of oil.

Upon checking dipstick it's way past the "H" mark, even after driving awhile and checking again it still much past the "H" mark.

Should I drain some oil until it reaches the right mark on dipstick, or just go with my gut knowing I put in the correct 4 quarts of oil? Same dipstick / dipstick holder from when car came off the lot 15 years ago so no issues there, no changes to engine whatsoever. I also know when you do an oil change you can never get all the old oil out of the engine, but I don't think it would offset my dipstick level THAT much.

Thanks in advanced.

you could have buildup in the pan that is decreasing your capacity.... but thats highly unlikely.

After the last oil change and adding 4 quarts of oil did you have a normal oil level?

Did you drain the oil on a non level surface?

Are you SURE it was 4 quarts, and not 4 liters? There is a slight difference (4 U.S. quarts = 3.78L). However, that being said, I find if I put the recommended 3.8L of oil in mine, it is just above the full mark. Probably because of the position of the oil drain plug, not all the oil is drained out when you do an oil change. Just drain off a bit and try just putting in 3.6L next time.
