whilst you 'can' do time, that is the max. punishment (as i mentioned, dependent on severity of the offense). I knew people who made the error of being just over the limit (not defending them, just stating fact) - two offenses in 1 year resulted in something like a 6 or 12 month licence suspension, no jail time or anything like that. This was in the 90's, so maybe, and hopefully things are more stringent now, but i really doubt anyone goes to jail for blowing a 0.09 - not saying for 1 second that i don't think it deserves jailtime, i have NO time for anyone who drinks and drives - personally, i'm 1 drink max. if i'm driving, and i'm large, and have been drinking for years (not suggesting that i think i have a higher than 2 drink tolerance)

But we'll continue to give minor slaps on the wrist until someone gets seriously injured, a real lack or foresight by our law makers - this place is a joke!

and even when someone does get seriously injured (killed), the sentence will still be a slap on the wrist in comparison to the crime committed

years ago a friend of mine lost most of his family to a drunk driver - he never saw the inside of a jail cell, 3 lives, for nothing

i have no time for people who don't take cars seriously, 3,000+ lb behemoths that can travel at 100+ mph can, and do, kill when not operated appropriately

GabAlmighty 04-11-2013 10:08 PM

That speed isn't really that bad, hell i've gone way more than that. The problem is the reckless driving and therefore lack of respect for their machines and the damage they can cause. Passing on the shoulder is a definite stupid thing to do, unless you're doing the Gumball...

vantrip 04-11-2013 10:34 PM

Pretty stupid these kids can't find better ways to use their money, when you lost your best friends because of careless/drunk drivers its like rubbing salt on wounds.

....

A lot of fobs drive around with L's unsupervised.

Mostly students obviously, I don't know if they don't know you're supposed to have a supervisor of Class 5 and age 25 and over, or that they

JUST DON'T GIVE A FUCK.

Of course there are the good ones, but when all you hear about them in the news is "BECAUSE SUPER RACE CAR" "OMG OVER 150KM/HR" it makes me sad I gotta share the same gene pool as these ignorant fuckers

didnt california set up a program where if you were caught street racing your car would be crushed?? we need something like that here...instead of a dinky little fine...you get your mommy and daddys 100,000$ sports car crushed in public.

No we dont need that here. Its pretty damn easy for a cop just to say you were street racing or mistake you for street racing just cus your passing someone. Laws like that leave to much up to the discretion of a cop.
When you continually give the state more and more power over the people its here to serve you end up with people serving and at the mercy of the state....sounds alot like communism dont it.

I honestly think cars should be sold by class type or some kind of tiered system. Supercars & Exotics should be under a class where you must be a certain age with some kind of driving experience by years to operate and own. With years will come some kind of maturity and responsibility and you will be accounted for your actions. Giving young kids these 500hp+ vehicles is basically giving them a gun to run around wildly.

Crushing a car achieves nothing but unnecessary waste, people will find ways to do this regardless, which has been proven here. I would suggest a tier system with licensing, but that wouldn't have prevented this anyway.

Yeah, but zipping in and out of evening suburban traffic? Or on a barely-occupied rural highway?

Precisely, i'm not zipping in and out of traffic, it's either late at night or I have a clear straight for a few km's. The point was what I bolded, the reckless part of it. Having no regard for other people's lives. Hell, they don't even have licences, I highly doubt they have much/if any driving skill at all.

How about we set up cameras to monitor your personal life and every time you do something wrong, like smoke a joint, we confiscate and crush your personal property.

It's been previously discussed the destruction of this kind of property is an unreasonable seizure of personal property which I personally agree with as a general rule. But I think that we need to find some kind of mechanism that will levy an adequate punishment for people who are not only flaunting the driving laws, but even the driver's licensing system itself.

Obviously fines and a quick impound are insufficient as this just doesn't end.

First of all those traffic infractions are minor. Second, an unlicensed driver does not mean they don't have a driver's license. They could have one from their home country but they are legally required to have a BC license as residents. Fines, points, and I'm sure it will be hard for the two unlicensed drivers to get a BC license after this adventure. Those are already severe penalties. Nobody was injured or hurt in the incident. 130-160 km/h are speeds I hit every day on my commute.

good thing the police responded before they claimed a couple of lives...this could've gone down really badly if the weather condtions were poor like this morning.

I would like to see the left lane hogs completely blocked faster traffic being charged as well. That would be equivalent justice.

In countries with balls, this happens! Canada is a joke when it comes to roads, driving, and punishment - inconsistent and strange are two good words that come to mind
