| Remote desktop software?
I'm looking for the best remote desktop software.
I want to be able to
► Control my PC from my laptop
◘ A tablet would be cool if it doesn't reduce options / performance
► On my home wireless network
◘ Over the Internet would be nice too but not top priority
► If possible it'd be nice to be able to game remotely too.
Both pc and laptop are on Windows 7

Windows 7 have their own RDP if you are running Pro, Ultimate or Enterprise on the host computer. Remote Desktop Connection: frequently asked questions

At home, I use TightVNC. It's a small application, and establishing connections are instantaneous with shortcuts. It'll work over the internet, too. You have to map ports, though. You can connect with the client, or use the java client via the web.
The only downside is that TightVNC doesn't stream video or sound. Splashtop does a great job with streaming full video, and games on your LAN.

VNC is great, but a bit to set up. I use UltraVNC, which has a "mirror driver" that makes video a lot smoother.
For something simpler, you can use TeamViewer, which I believe is based on VNC at its core. You install the full version on all your PCs, and then any of them can remote to the others, without need for port forwarding. You can create an account and add your computers to it so they're readily available from a list instead of having to remember IPs or system IDs. And you can login to the TeamViewer website and access them from there. They have iOS, Android, and I think Blackberry apps for remote control - just add your login, and all your machines are there. Best of all, there's no monthly charge - it's "free for personal/non-commercial" use (licensed version is a one-time charge). They also include a "monitor driver" that greatly improves video speed... and yes, you can do video and sound through it, although the quality can vary depending on your internet speed.

Logmein isn't the fastest but it's the most error-prone solution I used. I like how you don't have to worry about ip addresses changing.

Thanks for your helps, I went with splashtop, seems pretty good for local stuff atleast, lil muddy video for games/videos, but no biggy.
If there are better programs out there for streaming games like this let me know.

i use logmein for work and it works great. most solution you can't game as the bandwidth will not be there to allow to do so unless you have crazy download/upload speeds

I use windows rdp for all my systems. It's fast and is integrated well into windows. Splashtop supposedly can game over a decent connection as it uses the desktop graphics for processing and compatible hardware on my tablet.

If you are using the VNC protocol on a public network please use a VPN to encrypt your stream! Don't do port forward etc.
