Oh and by Ba Le I meant the one on fraser and kingsway. That one has more selection and hot food ones.

I know the Chinatown one isn't that good.

it was around Hastings and Gore.

used to be a vietnamese supermarket with the sandwich shop being in the back

and yea it was like 10+ years ago lol

the owner of the bread shop's brother decided to open a pho restaurant (golden phoenix) and she opened the bread shop within the pho place.

sandwiches arent as good as I remember, but still better than Ba Le lol

my favorite viet subs place in the south-east Van area

+1 for Pho Thy.

I don't go anywhere else. They recently raised the price by 50 cents though..

Bumping an old thread. Need a banh mi place in south Burnaby recommendation

Although this isn't a new place, I'm quite a big fan of Ba Le on Fraser and Kingsway.

I like it more than Tung Hing and Kim Chau.

Derek_N84 01-22-2016 04:00 PM

Banh Mi Saigon, Cafe Xu Hue and Tung Hing :D

EndLeSS8 01-25-2016 09:08 AM

My wife and I got food poisoning from the Ba Le on Fraser/Kingsway last summer. It wasn't the worse case of food poisoning, but I think it was due to the crazy summer heat, and it being an end of day sandwich.

I went to Tung Hing recently, very good. My new go to now.

Damn I miss that place! I had my first banh mi there back in the mid/late 90's

rsx10 01-25-2016 11:54 AM

Sorry to hack this tread but does anyone know where to get really good banh bao?

Ba Le used to make it but they said it is too time consuming to make and won't make anymore until further notice.

Empress is good for because its quick and fast, but Au Petit as better taste hand down. They usually sell out before lunch.

Yeah. Too bad the whole plaza burnt down by some arsonist to get insurance money apparently.
Otherwise I would've been a part time sandwich lady lol :fuckyea::awwyeah:

DD Mau serves some pretty good banh mi too. They specialize in it and have it in all different flavours! One of my favourites :)

kr4l 01-25-2016 03:29 PM

Best banh mi in Vancouver? None!

I'm from Edmonton and I'd rather eat a frozen and thawed year old Edmonton banh mi than anything here.

DragonChi 01-25-2016 05:46 PM

You must have went to the Chinatown Ba Le. Ive been to that place too many times out of Banh Mi desperation, and its kind of put me off.

fliptuner 01-25-2016 06:34 PM

Ba Le is like the Pho Hoa of banh mi. They're in food courts and strip malls all over the States.

Vansterdam 01-26-2016 06:06 AM

been looking for a local spot with some good banh mi op la (sunny side up eggs)
'
I might just go grab some bread from Saigon and make it myself today haha

surprised Au Petit Cafe never made it to this thread.

From what i heard they get someone to make a limited supply of rolls. It's epic good. Lastly, if you know them well enough, they put a shot of alcohol in your ice drip coffee.
