Buying a 2006 Acura TL that needs almost $2000 in maintenance. So I am looking at this: $12900 2006 Acura TL auto no navi 155k km I took it to a mechanic and he said that the timing belt is going to need changing soon and that cost like a $1000. And he said that car needs new tires and an alignment, about another $1000. So that's $2000 of maintenance that needs to be done. The seller listed it at $12900, I got it down to $11500. That was only when we knew about the timing belt. Now the tires need changing too and an alignment. What would be a good price to offer? Is $11500 a good deal? |
LOLOLOLOLOL 1000 to do a fucking timing belt change .. You can do that shit yourself for like less than 120. new tires and alignment ? alignment is 100-120. tires is like no more than 700 for some nice ones too. |
Are you dlos brother? |
Should of been more specific. It's not $1000 JUST for a timing belt change. It's the 7 year/105k miles service for the Acura TL. I called Acura of Langley, they quoted $1100. Might be cheaper at a non-dealership. Timing belt, all drive belts, water pump, spark plugs replaced, valve adjustment. Most of the cost is labour. |

Thats the 105k service, you can probably get it done for half the price at a non dealership, i never get shit done at a dealership because some people are lazy and don't give a fuck about their jobs. Why not just learn to do shit yourself? save you a bit of money + experience. DIY : A-122: DIY - 105k Service: Timing Belt, Water Pump, Spark Plugs, Thermostat *PICS* - AcuraZine Community |

Phil, do you do the exact same re and re as dealers for timing service? That's a good price if so. Keep you guys in mind Posted via RS Mobile |
go to a independent shop to do those stuff, so much cheaper. Unless you have extended warranty on it |
independent shop would do that for like 650 lol alignment is 1-2bills new tires? prob 7bills or so lol, but 155k wow thats quite a bit |
used 75% tires are even cheaper. alignment deals should be popping up as its getting near summer time. |
I wouldn't pay that for it, I was looking at a 05 tl 6speed with 121 on it for 8500 before I picked up my mustang. And I talked them into new tires if I had gone through with it. Posted via RS Mobile |
id be more concerned with the infamous v6 honda auto tranny at that mileage more than anything |
try finding cheap tires on tirerack. then find a reputable shop to install. probably $20 mounting/balancing each tire + at least $100 alignment. |
Out of curiosity, how can a mechanic tell a car needs an alignment just by looking at it? I'm genuinely curious if this is possible, and if so, how one would tell. |
^ pulling to one side, uneven wear on the wheels I guess would be two signs of alignment issues or even deeper issues |

mind as well get your transmission check up as well |
the 2006 acura tl tranny is fine, just switch the fluid with dw1 and change your 2 pressure switches. its the 05 and older hondas/acura that had the crap tranny |
