Finding a quality family doctor in the suburbs
 

Serious post, no jokes please

We moved from the west side to Burnaby in November of 2009, and ever since then I've been trekking to Kitsilano to see Dr. Ronald Greenberg.

But now I want to find a doctor closer to me. However, there are only five in Burnaby accepting patients (as checked on the College of Physicians website), and they have consistently bad reviews on RateMDs.com.

My question: some doctors say they're accepting patients on RateMDs.com, but not on the College of Physicians website. Which one should I trust? And if it's the latter, should I just grit my teeth and accept a shitty doctor?

Technically, even Kitsilano can be considered a suburb.

In 2371, Captain Kathryn Janeway of the Starship Voyager and crew, found themselves in a comparable predicament. Voyager was transported to the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker, a creature whose power seemed near limitless, and a dozen crew members were lost in the process - including, the ship's doctor. The loss of the ship's doctor was a grave concern, the crew realized they were 70,000 light years from home, and returning would take 68 years at uninterrupted maximum warp. No other options available, Captain Janeway turned to the ship's Emergency Medical Hologram (Mark 1). At first, Captain Janeway's confidence in the EMH was low. Starfleet had only recently begun outfitting ships with EMH programs, and they were very much unproven. The EMH's abysmal bedside manner, limited confidence, and low autonomy when first activated did nothing to dissuade the lack of confidence. Over time, the EMH improved; it expanded its database to improve bedside manner (somewhat), improve its medical abilities, and even added sub-routines to allow it to serve as an Emergency Command Hologram and have sex. Alongside this improvement, Captain Janeway's confidence increased until she recognized the EMH as fully equal to her organic crew members.

Mr. BinLaden, I suggest, you look to this example for insight on how to handle your own predicament. The circumstances you face are comparable to Captain Janeway; you're a seemingly insurmountable distance from 'home' without a Doctor. Like Captain Janeway, you have access to an electronic substitute, however. I suggest you self-diagnosis via Google and acquire prescriptions on silk road. At first, you may lack confidence, but like Captain Janeway, I'm sure your electronic substitute will prove equal, if not superior, to an organic doctor.
