Collie Hey guys My family is in the market for a Collie. I've been looking around and haven't had much luck in finding breeders or people selling pups. I was wondering if anyone here knew breeders or people that are selling pups around the Lower Mainland. Much appreciated! |
Collies are one of the most frequently surrendered breeds, because they're very poorly suited to suburban life. So, it's not difficult to find one in a shelter if you're open to going that route. |

Thank you guys for the replies. No wonder its been so difficult to find these little guys. |
That's not to say you CAN'T have a collie in the 'burbs, but remember they're bred as herding dogs, and as such need lots of exercise, and something to keep their brains challenged. They're not a dog that will want to lay around all day and then go for a short walk before and after work. If you have an active, outdoor lifestyle, a collie could be a good companion to take along with you places. But yeah, try shelters and SPCA first - there are lots of dogs already out there in need of good homes. |

Best of luck in your search for a new family member, Triplexcel! |
grew up with one. they are fantastic dogs but as everyone else has already said, they have INSANE energy. daily walks (plan for more than one and more than 'just around the block') lots of off-leash park time (throwing the ball, running, etc) lots of back yard play time a lot of stimulation they are great with kids, incredibly loyal, very trainable, and have a nice disposition |
Have you tried looking at adoptions/rescues? I know most people have this hesitation of rescuing 2-3-5 year old dogs, but they're absolutely fine and in desperate need of a home. I rescued my gsd when she was 2 and she's been nothing but awesome. Try visiting some of the rescue orgs and meeting the doggies, they're super sweet and you might end up finding your buddy there. |
Heres a search on pet finder. Keep your mind open. A great dog doesn't need to be a certain colour and mixes are great. I adopted my dog at 8 months, coming through the shelter system vaccinations and neutering were already dealt with. Pet Search Results: Adoptable collie Pets in Burnaby, BC: Petfinder |
what kind of Collie tho? Border, rough? I had a rough growing up and she was the most gently, sweet and loving dog ever. I miss her so much :( |
