We use www.rentcheckcorp.com, but our account was set up by someone else. Not sure what you need to do to prove that you deserve the info.

The reports you get back are basically an identity thiefs wet dream.

well, you get all the info on the application, and then verify it, and make sure its a good identity.

Honestly, I really do think the credit check system for rentals should be changed.

If you want a criminal check, you can require the tenant to provide one. They can obtain one in about 5 mins at any community police station whereas if you want to get one on someone else, it can take days to weeks.

You can also check https://eservice.ag.gov.bc.ca/cso/index.do

To be able to do a credit check, you need to prove a number of things: if you are a PM you have to give your license and\or have you company confirm and if you are a land owner you need to provide deeds, etc.

There should be a list of requirement on the websites. Most require an annual membership plus fee....plus a minimal charge every credit check you do (usually about $15).

Furthermore, if you have several rental properties you can become a member of BC Apartment Owners & Managers Association - BCAOMA

It does say its for apartment buildings, etc but individual owners can join, iirc. You will have access to more comprehensive tenancy agreements, applications, and condition reports. The site also feeds the credit check link that Grid posted.
